Every disney channel movie I watch seems extremely stereotypical. Sometimes, when the main character is african american, he goes to a school and you don't see a caucasian person until maybe 30 minuted into the movie or more! (ex: "Jump in!" )

If you've ever watched Akila's Bee, the smart a ss spelling bee dude is asian, and the main character who's supposed to be from a bad neighborhood is black. And everyone around her is black too!

They also make stupid calls, like in Johny Tsunami the main character is hawaiian but his father is chinese and his mother is irish. How does he get his naturally dark skin and wavy hair from two paler skinned races with signifigantly straighter hair? >:

I think Disney needs to get with it! Has anyone else ever noticed this? What do you think about it?

I have not seen any of those movies, although I purchased Jump In recently. But I have always been very, very skeptical about Disney movies the last time we really had a black person in a black movie was "Song of the South" and that movie is banned in this country. I cannot really comment either way as to whether the movies are stereotypical, but I will say I am interested as to how the main character will be portrayed in the Frog Princess, which is the first full-feature film from Disney that stars a black character, this will be interesting.

Yes, I have noticed this trend in their movies (even though I do love Disney movies). Not only in their movies, but in their t.v. series. Like in the 'Suite Life,' you only see one Asian girl, and it's the rich, dumb one. I think that they're trying to move away from stereotype but it's really weird. Yeah you don't see much diversity in their films, and that's why scouting agents from Disney come to the bay area often to find more Asian representation in their shows. Another movie, the Lion King, also has some stereotypes present (even though I love that movie). It only shows the 'white' lions and the fact that Scar is a totally different color that you can't find in any lion (I think) makes his character stereotypical. There are plenty of things to say about this subject, but I'm running late...

i've always thought about that ! i think its just the community and the people though YOU WON"T be able to change a nything. The blue eyed blondes will always be the stupid popluar cheerleaders, black people will always be the ghetto scary people, arabs are the terrorists who bomb everything, hispanics have low paying jobs, asians are extremely smart!
Although i DO NOT agree with these stupid meaningless views thats how most of the world see each other ... Its horrible and i would love to change it but i CAN"T!

LOL- in many black neighborhoods, you might not see a caucasian for days, let alone 30 minutes :)

For some historical perspective of TV shows, how many blacks did you see on episodes of "Leave it to Beaver", "I dream of Jeannie" or "Bewitched"?

Disney is just showing other environments, and probably going a bit overboard in attempting to display diversity.

Hey Blonda.... Didn't you see Legally Blonde? :)
