I am a non-smoker and I still think that it is wrong. The government thinks that raising the taxes on cigarettes will lower the use and in turn lower health care costs. My point is ... caffeine is also bad for you so is it okay to raise the taxes on or possibly ban Coke or Pepsi?

I think it's wrong, but I'm not saying that because I'm a smoker. Iowa just raised the tax by a dollar and crime has gone up, there are more convenience store thefts now. Also, they claim it'll make people quit. No, they start stealing. And what if everyone quit? Then they wouldn't get the tax! It doesn't make sense.

It's right!! cause when you die of lung disease after all of your friends hate you because your breath always stinks from chronic halitosis... The government has to dish out the money to send an ambulance to your home, pick up the body, and pay for the propane to cremate the remains. There are also many other reasons.. like paying to pick up all the cigarette butts that have been thrown out and now pollute our streets, buildings, and parks. That is why raising cigarette taxes is right.. to pay for the costs of damages that smokers cause on the world... and don't get me started on pollution.

In one sense it is,it will help pay for the Problems in Health that Smoking causes. This does not Apply to US because they have a rotten Social Welfare System that does not favour People at all it is all money with them. The People that cannot stop Smoking it will hit them Hard in there Pocket by Raising Taxes on Smoking. I am Speaking especially of old People who have smoked all there Lives and have nothing else to Amuse them except smoking and have small Pensions to Live on. I gave up Smoking myself in1989 and do not miss it at all,and Hate someone Smoking next to me it is vile.

If you choose to smoke, then don't complain about the tax. I guess it's pretty obvious I'm a non-smoker.

Wrong, taxes shouldn't be imposed or raised for social engineering purposes.
