Dang it. I don't get it. It smokes. And then it won't for a long time until I do something. Put a new battery, change oil. etc. What the heck.

if the car only does it only on long trips or heavy driving. it might be over heating. if its an old car, you might just need the radiator flushed and cleaned. bet either way get it checked a.s.ap. something like this could lead to a cracked engine block or water pump. which will cost you an arm and a leg.

Usually, if the white smoke is only right after you start the car first thing in the morning, the white smoke is only water vapor, and you've nothing to worry about. The exhaust system warms up and the white smoke goes away. If the white smoke continues long after the engine has warmed up, see a mechanic. If you have black smoke, worry. Oil is burning and you could destroy your engine.

usually white smoke is your coolant (radiator fluid) leaking through the engine gasket into your engine

maybe you have a blown head gasket, especially if your vehicle is overheating. you need to have this checked out before anymore damage is done.
