One Over Zero

I think your teacher is trying to kick-start your brain. I have a question for you to ponder: What if we had somehow skipped over addition and invented multiplication first? We could multiply positive integers, negative integers, and even go on to division and fractions, and never miss zero. (Though they do have a place holder that looks like an "0" which is an empty hole. But we don't care about that.) Think about it! The only time We need zero as an answer is if we started with it in the numerator in the first place, and we never let it cause mischief in the denominator, so think about how simple our lives would be with out it. We meet a strange tribe and we teach them our multiplication system, and tell them about the number 1. 1*1=1, 1*2=2 etc. They ask us about the number 1. We say,"Oh, No! Look , 1 is not a real number, it doesn't do anything by itself, so it is nothing. We just invented it because it is handy for filling up numerators, and to tell us the difference between 2*9=18 and 2*4=8, so we keep it around for convenience. They insist that 1 is indeed a number. Who is right? is 1 nothing or does one equal a number?

Zero over One is Zero,

ie

0 / 1 = 0

the other one, 1 / 0 (one over zero) is a math error. Nothing can be divided by zero... (unless you go into infinity and all that)

Zero divided by any non-zero number is zero.

Zero divided by zero is considered undefined, for the following reason.

If you try to solve the problem, you are essentially solving:
0/0 = x
But if we rearrange it, we get:
0 = x*0
And it becomes clear that no matter what x is, the equation holds true. Hence, the equation tells us that x can be any number, which we call "undefined".

Mathematiclly, anything over zero is considered undefined. 0/1 cannot be done because how do you devide nothing by something. 1/0 is undefined because any number divided by zero is undefined by rules of division.
