I was sitting in the car the other day and 'Umbrella' by Rianna (I think) came on the radio. I couldn't even listen to it for 1 minute! How can they call that crap music???

Obviously, people have never heard Led Zeppelin or AC/DC.

I know... I feel your pain
The pop music today is so bad I can't even stand to listen to it.
You know what's even worse? Hearing these modern artist do covers of really good clasics. Like Avril Lavign slaughtered Knocking on Heaven's Door and Hilary Duff slaughtered My Generation. It's really sad.

I hate to sound redundant here, but I, too, feel your pain!!!
The so-called "music" these days is beyond pathetic. I gave up on new music almost 20 years ago! All the good stuff has already been done, and all we've got now is pure garbage at worst, and recycled re-hash, at BEST!

Rap is totally unlistenable, and I don't consider it to even BE music. Rock has sunk to an all-time low. I'll stick with what I ALWAYS liked in the past! I've never even HEARD the song you mentioned, nor have I heard the singer before. You just have to avoid the kinds of radio stations that play that sh*t.
I sure do!!!

Cookie-cutter, one-song-is-the-same-as-another pop and rap "music" in 2007 is for those who believe it's okay for males to wear pants around the kneecaps, degrade humans and misspell the entire English language to suit their own immediate needs.

Just because some song has a dance beat doesn't make it better. And the best R&B songs HINT at what might be in store, instead of blatantly yelling expletives every five seconds. Where's the soul? Where's the touch? That's why when Marvin Gaye talked about sex, we listened.

I love music but cannot find inspiration in this trend that will surely die the similar death of trends such as the pet rock, the Jeri curl and Billy Ray Cyrus.

I don't even listen to the radio in the first place. I only listen to music on CDs, computer, and my mp3 player. But sadly for me, my sister is a mainstream music junkie, so I've heard about thirty seconds of it (before I leave the room immediately). A lot of pop, hip hop, rap, etc, lacks meaning, morals, or any sort of value at all. I've heard that this song's about friendship or something, but I think she could find some way to be deeper and more creative than talking about an umb-er-ella-ella-ella-ay-ay-ay.

That song sucks! The lyrics are stupid, that song has no sense at all and the video is even more stupid. Well, what can you expect of an album produced by JayZ? Nowadays music has totally lost its charm, the lyrics are all the same and the sound is getting worse every day.

If you think that song was bad, wait till you listen "Girlfriend" by Avril Lavigne... it's even worse.

what really matters is that some people will enjoy the cover and try and seek out the originals when finding out its a cover! whether a cover is good or bad is all down to opinion, but id rather hear a cover of any song sounding totally different to the original than something that could be straight out of a pub karaoke! after all, whats the point in a cover if an artist is only trying to sound like the original track? :( we want interpretation! :)

Avril Lavigne did a cover of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door"? Sheee-it. If Axl Rose weren't such a messed up has-been loser for what he did to GNR, he wouldn't deserve this. Certainly Slash & Co. don't. It's a shame Axl won't beat up Avril, because Avril would kick his ***. The man can't even beat up Tommy frikkin' Hilfiger.

And yeah, you're right.

I agree wholeheartedly. People seem to think whatever filth protrudes from their speakers broad casted from local mainstream radio stations is considered music. They could easily look for better music and discover what they might actually enjoy rather than what they are told to enjoy.

This excludes classic rock stations because that stuff is still terrific to this day and always will be.

Well, I just read the 40 answers to the question " How can they call this Music" and really enjoyed every opinion.

I am older than most of the Answer members so I just go to ITUNES, click on JAZZ and click on "FOREVER COOL" That satisfies me because they play every song I ever heard of and liked, they are NEVER out of tune like those wannabees on American Idol for example, never shriek like most of the popular divas and divans do on TV and most of all because I hear those great things called MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS like saxes and trombones and trumpets instead of JUST a guitars playing 12 beats to the bar over and over and over.

As for Avril Lavingne she was born in my town,(Napanee), sang and was loved in the little church to which she belonged, went to our High School and then spread her wings to the delight of many young people her age. They tell me she sold 11 million on her last album so lots of folks must like her singing. I wouldn't buy her albums but think of her a dear little girl that deserves all the success she has earned in that tough and merciless music world out there.

And as for silly songs in every generation, I think the most popular songs in my generation were the silliest song ever written. I was in Europe with my regiment in WWll when I heard them. Here are some of the words :

Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey

In all the dance halls in Britain people went nuts over that song

And you should have head the silly lyrics to Spike Jones's songs and the best sellers (according to letters from my sister back home) were JEEPERS CREEPERS AND DOO DOO BITTA BOTTOM WATTAM CHOO !

And you nice folks call present day songs silly ?

That's exactly my opinion!
Rap, and hip hop, and r&b are all about
shake that @ss, im a P.I.M.P.
BALLA BABY!
wtf s*&# is that, it isnt even music, its like
people rhyming things and creating new words, like shiznit, or bizzle, because they cant find anything to rhyme 7 times, and hip hop and rap wouldnt be so bad if it had a message, like akon's i tried
but to tell the truth that isnt music, its 2 monkeys put in a room together, the first monkeys name is snoop dogg, and the second is chingy, there, we have a rap song, congratulation u S.O.B., you just ruined our culture!
