After the whole grunge movement rock went skater punk and emo. Alot of rock has turned into rap/rock, because new rockers grew up listening to rock and rap, and just felt comfortable combining the two genres. The whole rockers need to get back to their classic rock and hair metal roots and actually make rockin music again. They need to forget about crying, and forget about blingin. Just rock it and rock it hard. I think rap speaks to so many people because it speaks about injustice and unfairness, like rock does, and it has a more relaxed feel than rock. So the people that listen to rock music tend to find something they like in rap. The messages are alot alike. There's just less guitars and more drums in rap. There really needs to be more chill hard rock, & bands that write music like Santana, Led Zepplin, and the Beatles used to. I don't mean write music that sounds like Zepplin or anything, but they need to quit making just p**sy and punk rock. Then the metal that comes out is more like Techno music. Rock is all messed up right now and there needs to be some kind of revival.

You have got to seem past the mainstream and dig deeper into the underground steel scene or determine out a few bands that don't seem to be always getting any of the limelight however inflicting a few waves within the tune scene. Seriously, well rock tune in this day and age don't seem to be getting just about as so much publicity as say the 70's or the 60's for some thing motive and in the event you have been a real fan you could appreciate that and spend money on doing a little study and honestly testing probably the most extra present bands shooting up like Mastodon, System of a Down, The White Stripes, and even Messhugah. Either that or hold being attentive to the traditional stuff given that pissing and moaning is not going to support none. EDIT: Also growling/screaming can also be outstanding if used thoroughly so that you have got to quit being so near-minded my buddy. You will fail to see a few well tune.

You know I find it very strange that you'll come in a hip hop section and ask what happen to Rock when all throughout the day the same people that'll respond to your post ask or even say "hip hop suck or is dead". It's a very bold move on your behalf but hell the only way for solution or answers is to ask questions and I appauld you on that. To be honest I always felt like Rock music was more popular by far than hip hop but if its not the only two things I can come up with is face-time or the music culture. Hip hop artist(s) are all over the place from radio, tv shows, movies, award shows, commericals etc so they are always in the public eye and I dont see hardy any rock artist(s) anywhere. Lastly, the hip hop culture is ran/formed on the backs of African-Americans/blacks and we are a race that forever evolves to new trends and that causes of races to want to be a part of. I dont see a lot of people from other races that want to be like rock artist. Even with the Shop boyz track "Party Like a Rock Star" we maily just want to party like them but not be like them but its slowly changing but it'll never be like hip hop

Rock has become unpopular because it somehow totally lost its way. Back in the 60's and 70's when it was good, a lot of rock songs were written over blues changes, and the guys playing guitar could shred. In the 80's, the prog guys alienated a lot of people by doing too much virtuoso shredding that only musicians like, and by using annoying keyboards (I'm talkin' to YOU Genesis, Styx, and Foreigner). But Nirvana was the deathblow. They wrote great songs, but it was all powerchords, and modern bands have taken that ball and run with it. By lowering the ability required to have a rock band, they allowed the emos, with their watered-down death metal sound, to take over the biz, and screw everything up.

I love rap, I hate todays rap. Rock is cool and I hate todays rock. I bet the truth is, you are just getting old like I am and the way I say rap is not the greatness that it used to be, you feel that Rock is not the greatness that it used to be.

but remember, people from the 1940s hated the people from the 1960s music too!

Thanks for asking a good question instead a racially, opinionated question!

I dont know....Im black and I can say that Rock bands make more money cuz we get bootleg cd's of rap artist.....However if you notice rock is being incorporated a lot in rap/hip hop.... ie party like a rock star or avril lavine and lil mama/ dont like ya botfriend....a lot of the riffs in hip hop songs have electric guitars & it could be that recent hip hop makes you wanna dance ie snap dancing, motorcycle, surfboard, ect.....also I know in Philly a lot of black guys are dressing like "white boys"...You know "blacks" used to wear baggy clothes now its slimer and some even tight like a skateboarder image which is taking over fashion mainstream.... Therefore stereotypical "black music" like rap and stereotypical "white music" like rock are not only being emerged by music, but also fashion and hollywood....Most hip hop listeners are black and blacks are dressing, "white" now...N think bout it what kinda music do most "white" skaterboarders listen to......ah haah....rock

Rock died in the 90's with the start of grunge. It then led to "emo" if you must call it that. Rock lost it rockstars. The lead singers stopped trashing hotel rooms, binge drinking, snorting and cheating with groupies. Instead they become more like their fans and started supporting human/environmental causes. Hip-hop took that rockstar status with it's video sluts, Cristal and Hennesey, drugs and bling.
