Depends a little on what you mean. While the Mongols ruled China, their empire was the largest ever. If you are referring to periods when China was ruled by the Chinese, then the Roman Empire was larger.

At it's height the Roman Empire was larger than China. But the amount of territory they controlled was always in flux. And compared to China, Rome wasn't around very long.

The largest was the Mongol empire. It included most of Asia and parts of Europe. Roman empire was only in Europe. Chinese empire was only in Asia.

I'm assuming you mean largest ever in their history. In that case, it's Chinese. Or more specifically, Han, Qing, and Ming China were all larger than Rome at its largest. Here's a link:

Even though the Mongols did technically rule over China at one of its largest points, they essentially become Chinese - they were assimilated into Chinese culture.

larger like how? in area? in money? i think the romans probably covered a larger area, but that depends if the square mileage of all of china comes out to be about the same as the square mileage of all of europe....which it just might, china is a big country.

although they were both very large by the standards of the period, Rome was at its peak the largest empire on the planet.
