If so, how stressful was it and how successful was it? Any tips for doing this would be very much appreciated.

(I live in Dublin and am planning on opening an after-school tuition centre giving extra classes to secondary school students).

I think what you are doing is brilliant. When starting a new business you need to hav a lot of self-belief, risk-taking skills, numerical skills etc. if you do, its definitely something to consider. Remember there's loads of support out there from services either on the phone or online who are always happy to help.
Do not rush into things though, although starting a new business is an exciting prospect, it is very rarely straight forward, so seeking advice and information along the way from professionals could be the key to your success.
SO with a bit of determination and a will to succeed I think your after-school classes will be a hit.

Wishing you luck!

Thats a brilliant idea I hope it works out really well for you.

I had a business in Co. Donegal, you need to work really hard, long hours, market research, lots of paperwork etc

If you are employing anyone as tutors make sure they are passionate about their subject area eg. a degree in their subject rather than a generalised teacher/training qualification. young people learn from being enthused

One tip is if you are dealing with the public and young people make sure your public liability insurance is always up to date.

The first year's a bit rough, it gets easier with time, but most businesses are not on a solid footing for 5-8 years.

Stress-wise, I suppose it's how you handle it, it is quite interesting, a real eye opener it was, for me.

The first answer is good for what you need (plan, etc).

Yes, I've opened a business. First you need to do a lot of research on your business idea, then have a business plan, make sure you have the financial ability to sustain your business, marketing is important and location is important as well. Good luck and congratulations~

there will be more administrative overhead than you realize...
keeping track of things, collecting money, getting business licenses, doing the payroll, hiring, taxes, etc. it's a lot of paperwork to be legal and keep track of everything. you must have good records.
