Questions!:
1) why is it all out of order?... is it cuz haruhi is so out there?..
2) is a finished anime and how many episodes are there?
3) if its not finished... is the manga still running?

(1) If viewed correctly, the episodes are all out of order - that is the original broadcast order. The regular DVDs have them in the actual order the episodes are supposed to be in, a chronological order. There is a special DVD version (US release Only) that has them also in broadcast order.
(2) It is a finished anime. The first volume is available for sale already in the US! There are a total of 14 episodes (Episode 0, plus 1 thru 13), plus a slew of "The SOS Brigade" live action thingies.
(3) There are 10 known volumes of the Light Novels so far, the 9th volume published in April of 2007, the 10th has not been published yet. There are 3 official Mangas in the series so far (adaptations of the Light Novels), possibly more to come out this year, and 1 disowned manga release that came out in 2004 - so a total of 4 actual manga volumes.

1. Because they thought it was fun and innovative to do it like that. The domestic dvd releases has them in chronological order.
2. It is finished, the last episode is the first episode. In total there are 14 episodes.
3. It is not finished. They announced second season is in the works. In this case, the anime is based off the novels which I think amount up to 9 volumes and counting.
3a The manga was produced after the manga aired. There was a manga produced before the manga, but it was dropped since it sucked and it is best to think of it as it never happened.

1) yes the show is out of order because the anime company(i 4got the name or w/e) thought it would match haruhis personality... heres the anime in chronological order 2, 3, 5, 10, 13, 14, 4, 7, 6, 8, 1, 12, 11, 9.
2)there are 14 episodes in the 1st season.. and season 2 is coming out soon so tht means it isnt over yet!
3) i do think the manga is still running... but im not rele sure if they have an english version anyway......

1: Its out of order because ppl would stop watching after episode 6
2: Its fihished 14 episodes total
3: Its not manga. Its from a story book.
