I was just wondering because I learned how to play chess in grade school, but never had anyone to play with. Perhaps, I should play chess with my children, instead.

Sometimes, but usually no. Sure, I know there is that sexy scene from "The Thomas Crowne Affair" but generally any sort of mental competition between husband and wife can end up very frustrating to one or both of the spouses. It's not that they don't want to play chess, people who love it, love it no matter what, it's all about the changes in the relationship might entail should things not turn out the way either one expects.

Most cities have chess clubs and societies, join one of them, you'll have a good time, learn and also meet some terrific people with great minds.

Anything's possible. But keep in mind that chess is a brutal game. The winner wins because he or she is better than the other player. That's kind of harsh.

Try backgammon. The loser can always blame the dice.

If they are any good at it. I personally haven't found a woman yet who can truly appreciate the game of chess and play it with skill. But, then, women aren't that good at hand grenades either. I guess it is a wash . . . .

My hubby and I play all sorts of games together. We are both competitive so it's fun. In general though, guys like to do that stuff for guy time. I would just ask him if he would be interested. Tell him if he says no, its fine.
