I was a committed Christian but have lost my faith . If you can keep your virginity till you are married good for you ,I think girls are pressurised in to having sex by their peers. There are the sexual health benefits to staying Pure. But with all the peer pressure and Hormones it is easy to give in . People who pledge to stay "pure " are ridiculed It is sensible to be in a commit ed relationship but a marriage is only a legal conformation of that commitment. Marriage is for the procreation of Children and the love support of each other through out life (in sickness and in health as long as you both shall live. )Often couples stay together with out making the commitment legal (getting married) and live out their liefs with their family . Their were disadvantages to only being common law partners but I think that the law has given them more of the privileges of married couples. SO WHAT ABOUT A BIT OF PAPER ITS THE BEING HAPPY AND NOT HARMING OTHERS THAT COUNTS in my view.

I think it's actually a good idea. My mother's always been in favour of sowing your wild oats when you're young: she reckons it's not always the best idea to marry your first (if your first turns out to be your one true love, of course, that's unfortunate, but how will you know if they are the only one you're ever with?).

There is something quite sweet about both being very inexperienced when you marry, but that's about it. Marriage is a massive commitment: it means (barring divorce) settling down with this person for the rest of your life! And before you do that, and saddle yourself with all the responsibilities that go with it, you should experience life: fall in love, have your heart broken, have sex with more than one person. Very very few people lie on their death beds and wish they'd had less sex.

I should add that quite a few people die wishing they'd had safer sex. I'm not advocating wild and careless sex. Be knowledgeable, and don't do anything you don't want to, but don't be put off sex for the sake of keeping yourself 'pure'.

I'm an atheist, by the way, but my mother's a Christian.

I don't think that waiting for marriage is wrong. But, I think that you should experience it before marriage. As long as its safe. It doesn't matter how many people with, but as long as its monogomous in relationships and in marriage. I don't particulary think that one night stands are good. They aren't for me anyway. But I think its good to explore yourself sexually, before being with just one person for the rest of your life. Though, if the first person you sleep with turns out to be the person you marry, thats fine too, as you've had time to explore everything, and know what each and other likes in that respect.

I'm pagan by the way.

It's a religion thing, for me, it is respecting my religion. Muslims are forbidden to have sex before marriage.

Does it matter?

You can wait until you're married to give it up and find yourself married to a complete b*stard.

On the other hand you could sh*g around find yourself the perfect partner from many, settle down and live happily ever after.

Or it could work the other way round.

Religion? No thanks. I can think for myself.

The more the merrier, especially gay.

But I draw the line with sheep.

I was born a Christian. Then I grew up.
