I think it's funny when people use words that people really don't say anymore unless they are from an older generation. Like trousers or knickers for pants.

The term peon is used colloquially to mean a person with little authority, often assigned unskilled or drudgerous tasks; an underling. In this sense, peon can be used in either a derogatory or self-effacing context.
Though the word is derived from Spanish, it certainly sounds like how you might treat the kind of person it is used to describe.

In spanish "burro" means "donkey", and the suffix "-ito", is given to something smaller than normal. In English for instance, we call things "mini-". So the direct translation of "burrito" would be "mini-donkey."
Somehow, this has come to mean, in both langauges, a soft tortilla filled with your choice of meat, cheese, and refried beans.

Evolution, mostly because it has become some taboo word that Christians throw around like it meant something bad to be avoided at all costs, like plague or syphilis, when it really just means to change over time. Everything changes over time!
