The leaves start out with yellow speckles and then turn all yellow. I started watering the trees 5 min each twice a day for 7 days (2 wks) then changed to 5 min/day 6 days a wk. The rest of my new plants seem to be doing OK with this watering schedule. I live in No. Calif. The temps have been running in the mid 80's to low 90's........please help!

Way too much water. Let the plants dry out a bit-- let the soil dry out till you can feel moisture in the soil a good 2-3 inches deep.

Rose of Sharon plants are tough plants and can survive in heat once established.

Make sure you aren't over-fertilizing as well- that can cause leaf burn too.

It's better to water in the morning, but if you live in a very hot-dry (low humidity) area, then evenings are fine.

I am not sure why either but my birch is doing the same thing here in Northern Georgia. I had a friend tell me it was too much water but we are in a severe drought so I find it hard to believe that's the case. I feel like it may be related to the species itself and not so much the weather. Also, it has turned every May since we planted more than 4 years ago. This is the first really dry May we have had.

Way to much water. Usually when leaves turn yellow that's a good sign they are being over watered. New plants need a good soaking maybe every other day for a couple of weeks then once a week after that. Stop watering your plants and give them a chance to dry out.

You may need to purchase a product to spray on the trees that will remove Black Spot Disease. Ortho makes one; ask your local nursery.
I truly believe you are watering your plants a bit too much. Every two days is plenty of water. Please water in the morning rather then the afternoon. Watering in the evening will make it more susceptible to mold.
