Dogs love you and then love the food and the stuff you do for them. Cats love themselves first and then maybe the food and stuff you do for them. If you're really lucky, your cat enjoys being with you. Your dog wants to be with you no matter what, even when you are doing something he dislikes (Usually). Live well, love deep and do good!

I'm not to sure how to answer ur question being that i had both many cats and dogs but with all diff rent personality's. my first cat was very loving and used to sleep with me every night on his own pillow and if i wasn't at home for the night he used to meow for me. he prob was a dog in a past life huh. lol

Probably the real difference is in our perception of how they love us, since we can't really know what they're actually feeling or how they perceive us.
Dogs generally seem to be more loyal and more affectionate, cats seem to be more independent - they love us on their own terms. Cat love is what I often heard referred to as 'cupboard love' - they only love us when it's of benefit to them! I love them for it!
People always say, we own dogs but you don't own cats, you serve them.
