Your future baby is not even an embryo yet. At this point fertilisation occurs and a ball of quickly multiplying cells embeds itself in the lining of the uterus.

That is still early to see the heartbeat. Usually until your HCG is above 16,000 they cant see a heartbeat. The American Pregnancy Association says that Dr's should be planning ultrasounds off the HCG level rather then last period. At around 6 weeks sometimes closer to 7 the heartbeat should be detected. I would seriously not worry right now. If you are 7 weeks and they don't see it then you can start to worry.

There is an awesome book you can get at Barnes and Noble called " In the Womb" that shows you with 3D ultrasound pics what the baby looks like at each stage. If you concieved a week ago you are 3 weeks pregnant. There is also a web site called iampregnant.com that shows awesome pics and video ultrasounds week by week. just google "3 weeks pregnant" and it will bring the site up too.

So this means you are 3 weeks along, 1 week past conception. The embryo has just implanted. It's neuro-tube is starting to form. Nothing resembling a baby yet.

It's not a fetus yet. I think the proper term is Zygote. It's still just a cluster of cells and a small dot attached to your uterus.

At on week your baby looks a grain of rice. They don't start looking a baby untill you are about 3 months.

It looks like an embryo, because that's still what it is. A couple layers of cells.

At 1 week of pregnancy, you are on your period. You pregnancy starts on the 1st day of your last menstrual cycle.
