Brake fluid level may be low, check the reservoir on the master cylinder. They could also feel spongy If the brake pads are heavily worn, or if the brakes need to be bled due to air in the lines.

It could be several things depending upon what you have recently done to the car
1) Worn brakes.. is the obvious start.
2) Bad brake hose.. check to see if your brake fluid level is constant
3) Bad slave cylinders in the brakes (the seals are going and it allows some bleedback of the fluid
4) Bad master cylinder - same comment
5) Air in the system (you allowed the master cylinder to go dry and suck in air, or you did a half as*ed brake job , or you installed a new master cylinder and did not bench bleed it.
There may be others but those are the ones that come to mind....

Either air in the system or worn brake pads. Bleed the air out or replace the pads, as needed.

either your rear shoes aren't adjusted out far enough or you have air in your brake lines.
