I haven't read The Secret Life of Bees but I have read The Chocolate War (in 10th grade) and remember not liking that book at all. I think it was a big downer. I'd go with the Secret Life of Bees because it's got to be better than The Chocolate War.

The Secret Life of Bees. It's a real-life tale of a young girl who learns to appreciate the odd things in life, over come difficulty, and find herself. It's an adult novel that was on the New Times Best Seller List for weeks.

The Chocolate War is a junior high school book that is a bit too depressing and sad and has too much teenage angst (frustration) that just drags it down, in my mind.

Oh, by all means read "The Secret Life of Bees." "The Chocolate War" is just depressing.

Why not read both?

I've heard the Secret Life of Bees is good.
