Titusville, PA

Actually, Titusville was the location of the first well drilled specifically for oil. "Uncle Billy", the driller, operating under the direction of Col. Edwin Drake, struck oil at 69 ft.

Prior to that, oil had been encountered in other wells and, dating back to prehistory, in oil seeps.

And, of course, since then much oil has been discovered in Texas.

I think what you should be asking is if foreign countries new how much crude oil was in Texas would they invade us. Texas caps off at least 88% of the wells they drill after the completion of drilling is done. We or Texas has a large amount of crude oil, but the government is wanting the U.S. to use foreign country crude cause it is cheaper and can be taxed. When all their oil is gone, well Texas may have no choice but to come independent and fight for what they have. That is why so many are trying to push for Texas to become the Republic of Texas and withdraw from the U.S. as a state. Who knows the answer to this question exactly?
