Hi. I'll be a sophmore in high school next year but I'm taking a beginner's Electric Piano course in school for the first time. My birthday is coming up and I asked for a keyboard to practice on. Does anyone know a good kind/brand to choose , priced reasonably?

Thanks so much :D

It seems as though you already have a computer. I don't want to assume that you do. However, if this is the case then you can buy what is called a "Keyboard Controller". Since this method "splits" the work with your computer, it is a much less expensive solution for getting a PROFESSIONAL KEYBOARD!

I personally own the M-Audio Axiom 61. It is a 61 key - keyboard (5 octaves). It will hook up to your USB port and PRESTO! You have a keyboard! The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $380.00, I remember paying much less for it. I think I paid about $250.00. Guitar Center sells it online for $299.00 before tax. I am sure it is less in the store.

The AXIOM-61 has great action on the pressure sensitive keys. It also has MIDI controller knobs and sliders that will enable you to use your sound and recording software that come with it.

Don't go out there and buy a KORG Triton or Yamaha Motif unless you are just rich and money is no concern.

Everything that comes with the AXIOM-61 will allow you to make full compositions and save them to your computer, minus vocals you will need a little more equipment for that but not much.

Man, things are EASY these days... Where was all this stuff when I was in high school

You can choose either a Casio or a Yamaha. Yamaha keyboards, in general, sound better but are a bit expensive. Casio keyboards are cheaper and offer lots of features but they have an okay sound quality. The following two series of keyboards are quite popular.

Yamaha - PSR series
Casio - CTK series
