It's for a community theatre production. Do people usually reserve right away? Do spots run out? I mean, it's just community theatre, not paid professional stuff?

You always call right away. Yes they do run out of appointments regardless of whether its a paid gig or not. No one does community theatre for the money..... ;-)

Also, if you're attitude is 'it's just community theatre' then maybe you feel you're too good for that venue and shouldn't bother going? You'd be surprised at the talent some local theatres get. If you want to be a part of it, humble yourself and be a part of the community.
