Yes if you are early in your pregnancy water can dilute the hormone. If your period doesnt show up, after 2 weeks a test should come up positive if you can hold your urine for 8 hours then test you'll get a postive result. If you pee every 4 hours its not enough time for enough hormone to collect in the urine so it can show as negative. The hormone HCG which gives you a postive test doubles everyday so eventually no matter what you will get a positve result. Just early on you may need to hold your urine longer before testing.

I'll have to disagree with most of the above posts. Of course, drinking lots of water will temporarily dilute hCG hormone in urine.

However, hCG levels double roughly every two days which means that any dilution will quickly be overcome by the immense amount of hCG being produced by the developing placenta.

The second reference shows standard graphs for hCG levels in pregnancy. Home tests will start showing a pregnancy at 25mlU/L and up. Note how hCG quickly reaches 10000+ mlU/L

Yes and no. If you take your test first thing in the morning when you get up and are bursting for a wee, then the concentration of hormone is greater, because you haven't taken in all the day's fluid yet.
Take the test during the first pee of the day and you'll be fine.

no it can not be diluted, If you still feel your pregnant do another test in a few days and do the test first thing in the morning because that's when the best results are obtained, good luck

As a biological mom of three, I can attest to the fact that sometime pg tests are wrong. I NEVER had one test correctly. I always had to go to the Dr and get a blood test to be sure. We never figured out what caused them to show neg. Dr was stumped too.

actually, the insert in the HPT says not to drink too much water before taking the test. Just take the test as soon as you get up in the morning.

Yes but if you are more then a week late it wont matter. Any thing after 4-6wks will show on a at home test. Use first mourning urine

I don't think you can dillute it.

Pregnancy tests are usually extremely accurate, and if you read the instructions, it does not mention anything about the amount of water you should drink before doing one or shouldn't drink.

I think you'll be fine.
