"As researchers have noted, the areas of the country where divorce rates are highest are also frequently the areas where many evangelical Christians live.

Kentucky, Mississippi and Arkansas, for example, voted overwhelmingly for constitutional amendments to ban gay marriage. But they had three of the highest divorce rates in 2003, based on figures from the Census Bureau and the National Center for Health Statistics.

The lowest divorce rates are largely in the blue states: the Northeast and the upper Midwest. And the state with the lowest divorce rate was Massachusetts, home to John Kerry, the Kennedys and same-sex marriage.

In 2003, the rate in Massachusetts was 5.7 divorces per 1,000 married people, compared with 10.8 in Kentucky, 11.1 in Mississippi and 12.7 in Arkansas."

Because they are encouraged to marry young. Abortion is frowned upon, as is sex outside of marriage, and nonmarried couples living together. They marry at a young age when they are not ready.

I think it also has to do with the right's knack for blaming other people for their own short comings: muslims, gays, mexicans, lesbians, mormons, catholics, the pope, atheists, liberals, feminists, their spouse.

I think in the red states the average age at which people get married is much younger. I think in the long run this causes the higher divorce rate. Also the states you mentioned have lower medien incomes, and less quality education systems which probably leads to more pregnancy, which in turn leads to more shotgun weddings. I also think you will find that the blue states have a much lower rate of marriage per capita (this is a guess). Since your question is really just an regurgitated attempt at an isult to christians and conservatives I will also educate you. It is allowed by the church to get an annullment for a number of reasons such as abuse and adultery. Now, do you know how many of those divorces were granted an annulment by the church? Probably not. Ask your self this, how many of those divorces are devout christian couples? You really don't know do you. Just out of curiosity, what is the murder rate in blue states vs. red states. I believe you can rack up at least one for the Kennedys right.

As widespread, Kim, your first answerer, is a liar. the respond is because of the fact they're used to being hypocrites. They in no way enable the actuality get interior the way of their concept that they are morally greater. "different than for the quickie-divorce Mecca of Nevada, no area of united statesa. has a some distance better divorce value than the Bible Belt. almost 0.5 of all marriages wreck up, however the divorce expenditures in those southern states are greater or less 50 p.c. above the national average. in accordance to federal figures: Nationally, there have been approximately 4.2 divorces for each thousand human beings in 1998. the value replaced into 8.5 in step with thousand in Nevada, 6.4 in Tennessee, 6.a million in Arkansas, 6.0 in Alabama and Oklahoma. Of southeastern states, purely South Carolina's value of three.8 replaced into decrease than the national average. in assessment, the divorce value is decrease than 3.0 in Connecticut, Massachusetts and huge apple." Did you look at how many people are married in the state? I suspect that there are more non married people in those states.

What does divorce rates have to do with conservatism? I see no connection. The two have no connection at all. What are the divorce rates of the Christians you refer to? That would be relevant. KY for your information is 3:2 Democrat registered.

Same sex marriage is not relevant because it has not been around long enough to make any impact.

Not all Republicans are Christians. Not all red state people are Republicans.

I have completely blown your so called report out of the water

Interesting question.
A couple of potential reasons:
Welfare states: In certain "Blue" states, a mother would not receive as many benefits should she marry the baby's father. Perhaps "Red" staters offer less, so a man feel it the "right thing to do.'
Divorce laws: If may be easier to get divorces in certain states (Nevada, drive thru Chapels) than others. Also, if one spouse will be taken to the cleaners in a divorce, they may just not bother getting a "divorce", but have 2 houses, etc.

Just one "Massachusetts Libertarian's" opinion.

The Red States see gay marriage as a threat but they see divorce of couple with children as dandy.

My guess is that folks in those states are notorious for marrying young. Often, those marriages don't last. And I'd be willing to bet those people aren't voters, either.

Their inability to accept others that are different than themselves are still present in their personal lives. Because families are living in such close proximity it is inevitable that unless they are in COMPLETE agreement, there will eventually be a split.

Now how often are people in complete agreement about everything?

Honest, open people are much more likely to be able to survive and thrive in long lasting relationships.

So the answer is obvious why conservative Christians have such a high divorce rate

Good question...but they are not going to appreciate it

People here get married more often than people there...sometimes they marry people from there...it doesn't work out!

Your asking me to delve into the personal relationships of others and tell you why they do or do not work...that's not rational...
