I'm applying for a job and the company I'm applying to doesn't have e-mail and they are not in my city, I just have a fax number but I don't have a fax machine.

YES IT IS POSSIBLE! Internet fax providers, like MyFax, allow you to send/receive faxes from your email. When you send a fax from your email it will be sent to your recipient's fax machine. When they send a fax from their fax machine it will end up in your email. You will get your own personal fax number. There is no need to buy any hardware or software. All you need to sign up is an email account and Internet access. For all the information you will need go to http://www.myfax.com

Good luck!

No, a fax machine is connected to the phone line, and is a separate terminal.

You can install a modem and use Phone tools or a similar program to send and receive faxes, providing you have a working phone line available.

The fax is very different from email - they are not compatible, sorry.

This is not usually possible. Fax machines are not digital, and don't have e-mail addresses, only telephone connections. Some fax machines have "fax gateways" to/from the internet, but these are rare.

Why would you want to do this, anyway?

I don't believe it's possible to send an email directly to a fax machine. If you have a fax card in your PC, you can get it through software; other than that, probably not possible.

get a fax service on the internet and you can receive faxes in your email and send faxes to a fax machine from your email.

Hi, maybe you can try Joyfax Server. You can receive all faxes on your computer and then forward the incoming faxes automatically to the email accounts.

I have a complete set of instructions on how to do this. If you email me I will send them as attachement. There is not enough room here to write them all.
