why do rabbits eat carrots so much? why dont they turn orange if they do?

Buns LOVE carrots because they have a high sugar content (basically they are treats!)... so please only feed carrots in small quantities!

Carrots help keep their teeth trimmed down. In the wild a rabbit will eat whatever it needs to trim those long front teeth. I have some in hutches and about 30 loose on my property. I notice what trees they like to naugh on. The bark also helps with the teeth.
As for them not turning orange, they like greens better and carrots should not be a main source of food for them. Lettuce is a NO-NO for rabbits, they will get an upset tummy.

I was told by someone at a pet shop to only feed a rabbit a carrot once a week otherwise they will get an orange tinge.

Rabbits actually eat the carrot tops more than the root.
Carrots aren't the best for them.... too rough on their systems.

Rabbits do like carrots but it is a fallacy that they prefer them to other food. Rabbits are 'eating machine's, and almost any available vegetation is their food of choice.

Why do rabbits eat carrots you ask? Well, rabbits were assigned the duty of protectors of the universe after they failed to impress the Eskimo leader with a play about yogurts. The Eskimo leaders took these plays quite seriously, as their entire religious belief was based around worshipping yogurt. They saw it as omnipotent, due to the uncanny fact of yogurt becoming even more delicious when it freezes.

my rabbits mouth gets orange from the juice of the carrot. he looks like he wearing lipstick. i think the reason they like them so much may be that they are sweet.
