On June 17th 1928 Emelia Earhart became the first woman to fly across an ocean, the Atlantic. However this was as a passenger not as pilot and she, together with the male pilot,. crash landed in the sea off Wales.
She became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic in 1932

on a wild guess, I would venture Amelia Earhart, who WAS the first to fly across the USA, and was on a round the world flight when she disappeared.
