Talk radio is the essence of free speech. Sure some are biased, but most TELL you up front what their bias is...so you know what you are getting. Any radio host who says he/she DOESN'T have a bias is out-right lying...it's impossible.

In this day and age, it's pretty hard for talk radio to be blatantly dishonest, because there are too many checks and balances to catch them in lies. However LYING is quite different than having different opinions. You can believe one thing...I can believe another. Neither of us is lying...we just don't agree.

My favorite host is Glenn Beck...followed by Rush Limbaugh. I totally trust that Beck is giving me the facts...as he sees them. He has no hidden agendas. Limbaugh is always consistent. He may be a little more political sometimes, but if he disagrees with the GOP (for instance), he goes after them every bit as hard as he does the Dems. I certainly don't think he makes things up just to get a rise out of people. And if something they say as fact is proven to be false, they are both quick to publicly set the record straight.

Sure, talk radio affects politics....It should. Politicians no longer have the luxury of hoping that their constituents have a short memory. Something they said years ago, can be brought out when they are being inconsistent...Talk radio keeps the politicians honest...at least up to a point.

Good questions. It's very difficult to trust idealogues, from the right or the left, particularly when they are clearly dishonest. The most popular right wing hosts: Limbaugh, Hannity, Liddy, remain popular because they fan the flames of outrage regarding "cultural decline" and other rather vague taglines. With half-truths, anger and - too often - intellectual dishonesty, they frighten, anger and exhort their audiences to greater and greater heights. On the left, it's the same thing..."Air America" is as dishonest, bombastic and dogmatic as right wing radio. When will honesty and civility return to the airwaves?
