Let's have a little fun with this, and keep track of all the responses you get. They try to use them all in an essay. It likely won't work, because there will be 'too many cooks spoiling the broth' but it make a routine assignment very interesting - both for you and your teacher.

There is a fine line between 'too many cooks spoiling the broth' and ' many hands making light work.' Somebody's got to be the boss and have everyone working to the big plan, so the main task is - How do you select the boss? How about an essay on choosing between leaders - the popular one, the powerful one, the noisy one, the nasty one.

If 5 cooks all join in to make soup, they are bound to double up on some of the ingrediants. If they have different ideas about what makes the perfect soup, that can also spoil the final product.

Imagine a chef so confident and so persistant, that he/she would add something in a pot just to have their way. But, the problem is that they know what they are doing and believe that the others are wrong. So. they go their way and he/she goes the way they want....despite the fact that onions are already in the soup. Too many onions? The soup is garbage, even if you like onions.

Everyone wants to help, but nobody wants to take the orders. Everyone wants to give the orders. They are so insistent to being in charge and being right, that they ruin the work just because of the attitude.

You don't have to be in charge all the time, even if you know what to do. Only speak or stop someone if they are making a dangerous mistake. Don't bother them if they are just doing it differently. Different is not wrong, different is just....different!

If you want to impress your teachter, tell him or her that in German, it's actually "Too many cooks spoil the porridge". Not sure what that says about our disposition, but maybe others can help and say how this saying goes in their language?
