It's true. Sources:

"As researchers have noted, the areas of the country where divorce rates are highest are also frequently the areas where many evangelical Christians live.

Kentucky, Mississippi and Arkansas, for example, voted overwhelmingly for constitutional amendments to ban gay marriage. But they had three of the highest divorce rates in 2003, based on figures from the Census Bureau and the National Center for Health Statistics.

The lowest divorce rates are largely in the blue states: the Northeast and the upper Midwest. And the state with the lowest divorce rate was Massachusetts, home to John Kerry, the Kennedys and same-sex marriage.

In 2003, the rate in Massachusetts was 5.7 divorces per 1,000 married people, compared with 10.8 in Kentucky, 11.1 in Mississippi and 12.7 in Arkansas."

"If blue states care less about moral values, why are divorce rates so low in the bluest of the blue states? It's a question that intrigues conservatives, as much as it emboldens liberals."

My answer is that conservatives are fundamentally unhappy. That's why they discriminate against others (to make themselves feel better), but unhappiness leads to divorce.

As usual, Kim, your first answerer, is a liar. The answer is because they are used to being hypocrites. They never let the truth get in the way of their idea that they are morally superior.

"Aside from the quickie-divorce Mecca of Nevada, no region of the United States has a higher divorce rate than the Bible Belt. Nearly half of all marriages break up, but the divorce rates in these southern states are roughly 50 percent above the national average.

According to federal figures:

Nationally, there were about 4.2 divorces for every thousand people in 1998.

The rate was 8.5 per thousand in Nevada, 6.4 in Tennessee, 6.1 in Arkansas, 6.0 in Alabama and Oklahoma.

Of southeastern states, only South Carolina's rate of 3.8 was below the national average.

By contrast, the divorce rate is less than 3.0 in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York."

This is true. There was even one evangelical christian group who did a study on this and found the same thing. Evangelical christians had the highest divorce rates, then came mainline christians. Atheists and agnostics have the least.

Massachusetts has the lowest divorce rates in the country.

This is by state.

There is one by religion.

HERE IT IS. IT WAS DONE BY THE BARNA RESEARCH GROUP

"While it may be alarming to discover that born again Christians are more likely than others to experience a divorce, that pattern has been in place for quite some time. Even more disturbing, perhaps, is that when those individuals experience a divorce many of them feel their community of faith provides rejection rather than support and healing. But the research also raises questions regarding the effectiveness of how churches minister to families. The ultimate responsibility for a marriage belongs to the husband and wife, but the high incidence of divorce within the Christian community challenges the idea that churches provide truly practical and life-changing support for marriages."

FROM THE BARNA GROUP

Multiple divorces are also unexpectedly common among born again Christians. Barna’s figures show that nearly one-quarter of the married born agains (23%) get divorced two or more times.

The survey showed that divorce varied somewhat by a person’s denominational affiliation. Catholics were substantially less likely than Protestants to get divorced (25% versus 39%, respectively). Among the largest Protestant groups, those most likely to get divorced were Pentecostals (44%) while Presbyterians had the fewest divorces (28%).

It's poor, uneducated, southern bible thumpers who are getting divorced.

"PRESIDENT Bush and Vice President Cheney make reference to "Massachusetts liberals" as if they were referring to people with some kind of disease. I decided it was time to do some research on these people, and here is what I found.

The state with the lowest divorce rate in the nation is Massachusetts. At latest count it had a divorce rate of 2.4 per 1,000 population, while the rate for Texas was 4.1.

But don't take the US government's word for it. Take a look at the findings from the George Barna Research Group. George Barna, a born-again Christian whose company is in Ventura, Calif., found that Massachusetts does indeed have the lowest divorce rate among all 50 states. More disturbing was the finding that born-again Christians have among the highest divorce rates.

The Associated Press, using data supplied by the US Census Bureau, found that the highest divorce rates are to be found in the Bible Belt. The AP report stated that "the divorce rates in these conservative states are roughly 50 percent above the national average of 4.2 per thousand people." The 10 Southern states with some of the highest divorce rates were Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Texas. By comparison nine states in the Northeast were among those with the lowest divorce rates: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont."

i think of interior the crimson states the typical age at which persons get married is plenty youthful. i think of interior the long-term this reasons the better divorce value. additionally the states you suggested have decrease medien earning, and much less high quality coaching systems which in all probability ends up in greater being pregnant, which in turn ends up in greater shotgun weddings. I additionally think of you will discover that the blue states have a plenty decrease value of marriage in step with capita (this could nicely be a guess). when you consider that your question is particularly merely an regurgitated attempt at an isult to christians and conservatives i'm going to additionally teach you. it particularly is permitted by capacity of the church to get an annullment for various motives jointly with abuse and adultery. Now, do you already know how lots of those divorces have been granted an annulment by capacity of the church? in all probability no longer. Ask your self this, how lots of those divorces are non secular christian couples? you particularly do no longer understand do you. merely out of interest, what's the homicide value in blue states vs. crimson states. i've got faith you may rack up a minimum of one for the Kennedys ideal.

Because divorce rates have little to do with accepting Jesus Christ as one's savior and a lot to do with financial stability. Aside from celebrities, people who are well-off have lower divorce rates than the poor. Education is also a factor: the more educated the spouses are (and the closer they are in educational level), the less likely they are to divorce. Another factor is age: people who marry young have a greater tendency to divorce. It isn't atheism that threatens marriages most: it's ignorance, poverty, disenfranchisement, and lack of meaningful choices. That's why Massachusetts -- yeah, that den of gay-friendly debauchery and fleeful godlessness -- has the lowest divorce rate in the country (and the God-fearing state of Arkansas has the highest). And, turning people into incubators as many in the South would like to do by outlawing abortion and birth control would only make things worse.

The divorce rate is astronomical everywhere in the US. That's like saying "Pro-Life Death Rate is 100% -- Hypocrisy?" and calling it "fair and balanced".
