It could be a number of things. Replace the thermostat first; if that doesn't work you may want to flush it and replace the radiator cap. Those are the cheapest and easiest fixes. Other than that it could be your fan, radiator or water pump.
Don't drive it if it over heats. If you did blow your headgasket then you'd see white smoke coming out of your exhaust and smell the sweet antifreeze.

It's quite likely that the head gasket blew under the excess pressure when it overheated the first time. If the head gasket needs to be replaced you might see water in the oil, oil in the water, or excess steam in the exhaust.
Fixing that is conceptually simple but labor intensive: the head is removed, the gasket replaced, the head put back on. Trouble is, lots of other stuff has to be taken off before the head can come off.
Do you know why it overheated in the first place? Possible reasons include:
Low coolant level
Failed/failing block thermostat
Failed/failing water pump
engine problem generating excess heat.
Overheating can also warp or crack the block but this is rare, though slightly more common in crs with alumimium blocks.
Other things to look for as a result of over-pressurization:
bulging/cracked hoses
leaks in radiator
leak in heater core.
I hope your repair is simple--these are only possibilities.

Could have a blown head gasket, If pressure is backing up into the radiator. Let the car cool. Start the car with the radiator cap off, if water shoots out, you have a cracked head or head gasket, also little air bubbles in the radiator, that smell like exhaust is another indication.
