Yes, the budget supported by the President and Congress provides a ton of money for research into alternative fuels. Both President Bush and Democratic leaders in Congress realize that alternative fuels will be the way of the future. It would be stupid to not try to develop such fuels and do such research.

Bush has voiced support to ADM and other big commercial farming concerns in regards to the production of corn alcohol as an additive for gasoline.
But since this still involves big oil, this is nothing of real value.
He's also paid some lip service to hydrogen as a fuel, but I doubt he's half way serious about this transition.

Why would anyone need to fund these things if they were legitimate alternatives? The fact that the funding isn't available through normal channels should prove to you that there's no decent market for these fuels. When gas prices get higher, then the alternative fuels will become feasible. Until then, there's no point in subsidizing them.
What do you want to do, create another whole industry of fuels that's subsidized by government?

The US government will not discover any alternative fuels. As much as libs don't want to admit it, it will be the big "evil" oil companies that will discover it, and they will discover it when there is a market for it.
P.S. How would Bush fund it? Doesn't Congress create the budget?

The Government should not fund any of these programs. It is up to the private sector to meet customer demand. If we want change it will happen. Businesses go where the money is. If there is a demand for alternative fuel, then businesses will supply it.

NO Way. He is an oil man all the way. He talks like he cares about alternative energy etc. but talk is cheap. He has done nothing to promote clean air nor alternative energy.

Bush is almost synonymous with oil. He will outlaw alternative fuels first.
