I want to sell some items on Ebay. I have no problem charging it because we have Paypal. My only concern is shipping rates. I read their tips on shipping charges but they all sound Greek to me. It's quite confusing and entails a lot of instructions. I need to know the simple rules of determining the "shipping & handling costs" . I am selling sandals, shoes and shirts

You need to know the weight of the items, inside the shipping boxes. You can then look up postage rates at usps.com

I found a nice Postal Scale in a yard sale for $5. I mean it nice, mechanical, not digital. I weighed my products a few times ready to ship and then had the post office weigh to see if the scale was accurate and it was. So, I weigh and have my product ready to ship. When it sell and I get paid, it ready to go that day or next, I just print the shipping label on-line and the postal person pick up at my house. I assume Fedex and UPS can do the same. Most my stuff best shipped USPS and I pay about a $1 for a Confirmation and this gives me a tracking number for the buyer so they can go on-line and see where the product is.

Go to the post office and they have an automated shipping machine...use it to weigh your items and chose your shipping preference and it will tell you how much it would cost. If you ship off of paypal you do not have to pay for delivery confirmation. Using Priority Mail is the easiest I think. I believe its $4.60 for under a pound. And theres always the Flat rate box thats 8.95 for heavier items. And the boxes are free at the post office.

Weigh it packaging included and use a guide from the post office (UK) or whatever postal/courier service you are using to calculate postage ( do not forget to add a reasonable amount for the cost of any packaging you have used as Ebay guidelines allow you to do this)

Go to USPS for regular mail and UPS for expedited delivery.
Both websites allow you to enter approximate dimensions and weight to estimate your freight.
Best deal is to have your customer be responsible for the freight. Takes alot of headaches out of the deal.
Good Luck!
