you can thank Comish for this. He has ruined everything he touched. Every other sport gets money from a good TV deal. The issue is that Bettman has a deal with a channel that doesn't even show in 1 million households. Do you think that the NFL or Nascar would do something that stupid.
Another issue is that the lack of a true star in Hockey. Crosby is only a star to hockey fans. Where the Great One was a household name. Crosby may someday become that, but as of right now, hockey is lacking.
Another reason, the quality of hockey is actually down. To many new teams, to many new markets, and not enough drama. The rivalries don't matter as much, because they arn't played up. I mean who actually cares if Detroit plays Colorado anymore? A handful of fans is all.
Just to let everyone know, Hockey Town, has nothing to do with marketing. Detroit is as much Hockey Town, as America is a democracy. Its just a term, any true hockey fan knows its Montreal. No questions asked.
When the sport actually can display the quality that it has in the past, then the players will once again make money. Untill the comish gets off his bum, i don't see that happening. So as much as the players deserve more cash, they can't earn it because of management.

It's just the nature of the two sports ...
1) Hockey players in general are tougher than baseball players. Baseball has its "contact" moments, such as when the catcher blocks a baserunner from the plate, but baseball players don't spend the whole game checking each other into plexiglass walls. Even allowing for the fact that hockey players are "armored up," they've got to be tough to take that kind of physical punishment. That explains why hockey players are generally back in the game sooner even though they get knocked around more than baseball players.
2) Baseball is more of a finesse game than hockey, by which I mean that in baseball it's easier for changes in conditions to make the game unfeasible and/or dangerous to play. For example, an outdoor NFL game doesn't get cancelled due to weather unless there's a full-bore blizzard coming on (and sometimes not even then). A baseball game can be delayed due to a few raindrops! It's because football can still be played in less-than-ideal weather, but baseball gets dangerous if conditions interfere with the players' ability to see and/or control the ball. With the rain example, a wet ball could cause the pitcher to accidentally bean the batter, where a dry ball poses no problems. Hockey is more like football in this respect.
Player injuries also speak to the finesse issue. A pitcher with a sprained finger (for example) could find his control of the ball compromised enough that he's dangerous to batters, umpires, and even catchers! Most hockey injuries don't create that kind of problem. The major risk with a hockey injury is causing permanent damage to oneself, not harming fellow players.
As for how much the players get paid (baseball players earning more than hockey players), it's due to a combination of how much the market will bear for salaries plus the fact that a baseball season is 162 games, vs. 82 for hockey. There are certainly overpaid baseball players, but when you consider what's being asked of them to earn their dough, I don't begrudge them the money. Not much, anyway. It does bug me, though, that baseball players end up getting so much more than hockey players.
My $.02 worth, hope that makes sense.

Hockey is one of the toughest sports, and the players are paid the least out of all the major leagues.
Hockey players have to be tough. It's the only sport in which small injuries mean nothing. In soccer (World Cup) guys would barely get hurt and they would cry or sit out. Etc.
Hockey players get the crap beat out of them and they still skate until the game is over.
I'm not trying to show a bias or anything, but in every other sport I've played, the small injuries are a bigger deal.
I think it's also what you're expecting to get yourself into.
Anyone playing hockey knows it's dangerous. There is that concent. I don't expect to get hurt while playing soccer or baseball, so it might be a bigger deal then.

I love hockey and I don't care about the salaries. Doctors and teachers earn a lot less than pro hockey players but nobody is saying that they are less valuable. I'm tired of everything being measured by money. Get out there and enjoy the real game (hockey) and let the baseball wimps do whatever it is that they do.
By the way, are baseball players jealous of soccer players who make almost as much but only play a small fraction of the number of games? (ie - top soccer players earn way more per game)

yeah this really bothers me too. i mean hockey players take a serious beating everytime they get on the ice and when they retire, they have so many health issues that are hard to live with. i dont get how baseball players get get paid 2 or 3 times as much as hockey players. everytime you step on that ice u may end up in the hospital. its very unlikely to end up in a hospital while playing baseball. very good point on your part about the puck in the head.

Average amount of actual "action" time during a baseball game: 9 minutes and 55 seconds, I believe.
A-Rod is due to make nearly $30 million this year, while the best player in hockey in Sidney Crosby only made less than $900,000 last year, spending much more time playing a very physical, tough and brutal sport and winning the NHL scoring title.
I can't explain it either.

nicely i'm from around the OC and a season seat holder for the geese so i understand precisely the way you experience. my suggestion is pass to as many video games as you may and on the video games meet human beings. make pals because of fact even regardless of the undeniable fact that hockey is extremely unknown down here the followers are a different knit team. they are going to be waiting that could be useful you outwith any questions you have. thus far as video games to work out the pink Wings (Jan 14) are continuously a great team to work out besides because of fact the Sharks (March 15 and Apr 5) and the great opposition we've with the kings (Jan 6, Feb 18) is nice to work out. nicely desire it helps and pass geese!

A hangnail for a pitcher is not something you pitch through. Pitching isn't about how tough you are, it's about placement and putting motion in the ball, hangnails screw up the motion of the ball whether you can take the pain or not. If you want to ****** about baseball, put it in the baseball section.
