My wife and I work alternating schedules, she all night, and me all day. We talk during the day, when she's not sleeping on IM, and at night, when I'm not sleeping on IM....I talk to her via telephone at least 2 - 3 (I'm a reminder kind of wife, and she's really forgetful)...

that's so sweet! I usually text/talk to my boyfriend every morning while I'm at work and he's driving to work. Probably once a day at some random time. I usually call him while driving home, if we don't speak during the day. Then I chat him up big time when he gets home, as he does to me! I like when we actually have a day off together! :)

My boyfriend and I are in a long distance relationship (I live in NYC and he lives in Chicago). We only get to see each other for about 4-5 days per a month.
When we're not together we probably talk on the phone for about 30-60 minutes a day (depending on our schedules). We also email back and forth throughout the day or chat on IM, while we're both at work (we're both in our mid-late 20s and have professional office jobs). We also text back and forth probably a dozen times throughout the day as well.
We're both perfectly happy in our long distance relationship, and I think it's because technology makes it possible. 10-15 years ago we would have had to call each other from our land-line and that would be our only communication. Most of the time I know more about what's going on in his life than his roommate/best friend and I'm 1000 miles away.

That would be hard for me, to not talk to my girlfriend that much. We live together too but I don't work and she does. So I stay home and keep the house together, we talk on the phone a lot during the day, we text almost all day but I'm always home when she gets home.

When I had a significant other, we would text each other about a dozen times a day and talk about 3 to 5 times a day.

well, my doll gets up early to have coffee with me in the morning, (and to hog the bathroom) so, we watch the news and drink coffee for about, ohhhh 15 minutes.
then we see each other from 7pm-10ish, and we used to text throughout our work days, but, we dont do that nearly as much, i guess work has been picking up.
other than the weekends we looking at roughly, maybe around 20 hours during the business week.

WE have the same kinda schedules that match, I get off around three and he gets off around six, but we text alot and I call him 3 or 4 times day when I'm at work LOL...

Yeah I pretty much have a permanent attachment to my girl. Lol. We talk as much as possible when we're not together and we live together, working pretty close to the same schedule so we see a lot of each other also. :)

We have similar schedules so we talk whenever we are together. I talk a lot. I could talk myself to sleep. When I get to telling her about my 4th pet bunny that died when I was in 7th grade she will jokingly threaten to go sleep on the couch.

Your work schedules may well be the reason you get along so well. Sounds as if you have it under control When I see too much of my other half, trouble starts...I think that is true of anyone, straight or gay.

We use a website called "deviantART" (an art community) to talk. Passing notes back and forth through their PM system and chatting. Occasionally I'll email her, or call her.
