The Moon because it's associated with the female principle. It's mystic, ever-changing, but still irresistibly attractive. It's a 'she' in poetry and 'la luna' sounds poetic in itself. The moonlight is a classic companion to all things connected with romance, and the effect present in verse probably since its beginnings.

The Sun, on the other hand, means life, but only if you're not too close.

I would want to be the moon. The moon is beautiful when full, playful when it's waning and mysterious when she's gone. I would want to come out and play with all of the creatures in the night. I want to be among the stars in the heavens and sometimes even get to see the sun during the day. The moon would have the best of both worlds. The moon. Yes. I would be the moon.

I would choose the moon because the sun is consuming itself with it's own power. I would rather absorb and reflect from things around me than be all-powerful. You learn so little when you are the center of the universe. As the moon, you can use others' strengths (the sun's light, the earth's gravitational pull) and still exude your own beauty.

I would choose the sun. Though not alive itself, it has spawned life in our solar system. Even when we can't see it, it's there, sending its life-sustaining energy to us and the whole planet. Without the sun, there would be no Earth, no moons. Both are beautiful, but one is only a pale and lifeless reflection of the other.

I would choose the moon, because the moon is always calm.
Although, I have anger problems like the Sun sort of.
But people can actually look at the moon and admire it.

I ask, in return, "What prompted your question?" (I really am curious).

Also, the question reminds me of the movie "Brother Sun, Sister Moon" -- an old one by now but still an EXCELLENT film.

Wrapped in the blanket of the dark nite sky,
I can rest my head, and watch the stars fly.
As they dance, around my head,
People will watch me, safely tucked into bed.
And should anyone need me back again soon,
I come out every night; I'm the moon.
