Definitely not someplace I'd classify as low-budget. (I'm a hotel snob, I don't like anything less than 4 stars - a Hilton is slumming for me.) The rooms are clean and nice. Very nicely decorated. The casino isn't smoky. I didn't feel crowded in. Top-not entertainment - especially in the bars.
My rating - with points of reference being: 1 is Riviera and 10 is Wynn or Bellagio, I'm going to give it a 7. (a 9 would be Mandalay Bay, and 5 would be Excalibur.)

I would rate it 7 out of 10 as far as quality and amenities... but ONLY if you don't consider the pool a priority. NYNY's pool is rather small and situated so that it is in the shade of the parking garage for most of the day. Another common complaint about NYNY is the noise from the roller coaster that wraps around the building. The roller coaster runs from about 10:30 AM to 11PM or midnight, so if you don't intend to be trying to sleep during those hours, that won't be an issue. You can also request a "quiet room" at check-in and they'll accommodate if possible.
NYNY is walking distance to several other great properties and attractions, including Luxor, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, Monte Carlo, ESPN Zone, and Gameworks.
The rooms at NYNY are fine, nothing extravagant, but clean, well-appointed and comparable to other hotels within the same price range. The property offers plenty in the way of restaurants, bars, and entertainment, and the casino has a good feel to it.
Here is the official hotel website so you can learn more about what they have to offer:

If you would like a similar quality hotel with a better pool, try one of these properties:

Everytime I go to vegas, I purposely stay in different hotels since each hotel has their own charm. The last time I was there, I was at the Luxor and liked the unique interior. Everytime I go, I love walking through the Paris Hotel and usually do my shopping there. I'm not a gambler but to me, all the casinos are the same, except for The Bellagio and Caesar's Palace. It's too crowded and I hate squeezing through the crowds. I'm staying at Planet Hollywood in the summer, so I hope it will be a good experience.

I would say NYNY is a 7 when compared to other places on the strip. It definitely is not in the same class as Venetian, Wyn or Bellagio but it is above old school places like Sahara and Tropicana and comparable with other mid-range places like Luxor, Monte Carlo and MGM.
It is in a great location with quite a bit within walking distance. There are some decent bars and clubs and adaquate food choices.
One complaint about NYNY that often comes up is the room size is a little small and it is somewhat confusing of a setup since there are several elevator banks.

It is middle of the road. I've stayed there before and liked it. Besides, how much time are you in the hotel room while in Vegas?
On a 1-10 scale, it's a 7

on a scale of 1-10 including all other hotels in vegas?
i would give it a 5.
its on the cheap side of nice. Its not in a convenient area. The clubs arn't very good (coyote ugly is awful). the only good thing about it is that it has the skywalk to MGM. Its the type of hotel you stay at if you don't plan to spend any time in your hotel, and you either love to walk, or have rented a car.

would would say its in the middle of the hotels. its nice and a little more affordable then the higher hotels. plus it is right in the middle of everything. So if you don't want to spend a ton of money on a hotel i would stay there. the rooms are nice and the casino is nice
