Yes i'm very interested in the real world. I feel that that kind of stuff messes up peoples imagination anyway so i rather deal with things that dont corrupt the mind

It looks like you have upset a few HP fans who are now defending their fanaticism! I just wish they wouldn't all keep posting the same boring questions over and over again - that's why there is a search button.

But to answer your question yes, I'm interested in the real world. I'm off to the world-famous Glastonbury music festival next week - fingers crossed the weather stays dry! Looking forward to seeing some really good bands, meeting up with old friends and generally just having a good time.

So what do you do when you're not reading HP? ;-)

I can tell you're a person that has probably either not read the books or else you did not REALLY read them, meaning you read the text, but not the message. Just becasue the story talks about dragons and magic doesn't mean that it does not have real world parallels. One point that is stressed throughout all 6 (and most probably #7) books is the importance of our choices. Don't tell me that Dumbledore's (I think it was him) quote "Sometimes we must choose between what is right and what is easy" does not apply to the real world. Have you lost a loved one? Harry has lost 4 so far, with more coming. We struggle with him through these losses, and it makes us think about our own lives (ie the real world). Harry has problems with girls. What boy doesn't? We learn again from him and JKR what a meaningful relationship means (look at Ron and Lavender in HBP, NOT what we want to have). Another lesson from Harry Potter. We learn from Harry the importance of friends. He plans to go on the Horcrux search alone. Could he make it through such a dangerous journey alone? Absolutely not! Ron and Hermione will go with him. When have you needed friends? JKR not only keeps us enthralled with her beautiful and creative books, but she manages to teach us many more lessons than we can learn on our own. JKR is so descriptive and creative that we feel as though the characters are of our world. With this feeling, we can follow through their world with them and suffer and celebrate with them (Don't tell me you weren't devastated when Dumbledore died! It brought many people to tears because JKR took the time to make her characters so easy for us to relate to) Why did she do this? She did this so that by going through Harry's, Ron's, and Hermione's emotions, we would learn a great deal about ourselves and indeed the real world.

I felt that way too, and only went to see the first film because the trailers looked exciting, and then I wanted to read the books because I've found that in general books have more to them that the films that are based on them. After the first chapter of the first book, I was hooked.

But I still like the real world.

The books are good but o.k. the hype is a bit over the top.

But kids love it and they are reading more due tot his hype and anything which encourages children to read is worthwhile.

My son is dyslexic and I know how hard it was to encourage him to read- if Harry potter had beena round when he was young I am sure he would have grasped reading a bit quicker. ( He has been listening to the CD's though and is interested in the stories.) alas he still finds it difficult to read for a period of time.

I enjoy the HPaudio books I listen while I'm on the computer, but my life does not revolve around HP, so yes I am very intersted in the real world.

If I want the real world I'll read biographies and watch the news. For now I'm quite happy to keep my nose firmly in the pages of Hogwarts.

Oh, it depends on how one defines "real." And, besides, do we not all have our little escapes, some better than others? For some, Harry Potter, for others, music or theater- or Yahoo Answers. That sounded way too pretentious, didn't it? Sorry.

Thought Harry Potter was the real world. What else can there be

Certainly not me, I work as a nurse and also am a parent. I get enough of the real world without seeking it.
