I love this question because it's something i'm dealing with right now. I used to be a very spiritual person...however it seems as if lately that i've given up on it and run back to everything i use to do. Drinking excessively, swearing like crazy, listening to awful music, no control on my temper, not going to church at all...and the only thing that i can conclude from this is that i'm lazy and have no self control but i have no clue how to get control over these things...
It drives me crazy...to the point that sometimes i feel like i can't go on. i feel like i can not handle problems and temptations that are thrown at me.
So i guess if any of you out there know any way to fight habits and addictions, i'd be more than willing to listen.
Great question, as always!

The answer is very simple sweetie and it is unfortunate that so many people stay trapped in this 'prison' their whole life. It is because doing those things feels good at the moment but later after the moment has passed it brings pain and suffering. For example, people that get drunk enjoy doing it at that moment and they feel good. However, when they start throwing up and have a hangover later, they are miserable. Its pretty much like most sin - pleasurable for a short time, but brings you some kind of pain in the end. :( People need to wise up and atleast look beyond 'today' and see the consequences there would be 'tommorow' if that action was done. However, ideally, they should always do good and never evil because doing good is serving God - our mission in life.

i think because we think about the good times, and push away the bad points. So then we want the same feeling so end up going in back, forgetting about the bad points

Because we are all idiots. We thrive on drama and heartbreak. It's a cruel joke God has played on us. We want what we cannot have, we love people that are bad for us, it never ends.
Misery loves company, because we keep seeking it out.

Because we would all like to believe that we can fix things and repair things, even at our own expense emotionally sometimes.

We are all masochistic and like the pain of wanting something we cannot have (or at least, we cannot have it AND be healthy/happy).

Familiarity - even though it is more than likely bad for us, we know it what it is and it's like home

We don't have enough self-respect and love to stop doing painful things. (or people)
