leaf vegetables such as spinach and turnip greens, dried beans and peas, fortified cereal products, sunflower seeds and certain other fruits and vegetables are rich sources of folate, as is liver.
Some breakfast cereals (ready-to-eat and others) are fortified with 25% to 100% of the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for folic acid.

All women of child bearing age should get at least 400 micrograms of folic acid per day. Here are foods and how much folic acid they contain. Folic acid is not as well absorbed from food as it is from a supplement though, so you may still want to include a folic acid supplement in your diet.
Food manufacturers are required by the Food and Drug Administration to add folic acid to enriched grain products such as breakfast cereals, bread, pasta, and rice so that each serving contains at least 20 percent of the daily requirement, and some breakfast cereals contain 100 percent (400 mcg) or more. Dark leafy greens are also a good source of folate, as are legumes such as lentils and chickpeas. Other sources include the following:
• 1/2 cup cooked lentils: 179 mcg
• 1 cup boiled collard greens: 177 mcg
• 1/2 cup canned chickpeas: 141 mcg
• 1 medium papaya: 115 mcg
• 1 cup cooked frozen peas: 94 mcg
• 4 spears steamed or boiled asparagus: 88 mcg
• 1/2 cup steamed broccoli: 52 mcg
• 1 cup strawberries: 40 mcg
• 1 medium orange: 39 mcg

You should drink orange juice daily, eat fortified cereals, and eat lots of green vegetables such as kale. A prenatal vitamin does not pose any health risks- it will help ensure that your baby is getting all the vitamins it needs to develop inside you, and it will help you stay healthy as well! There are many different brands, including organic ones such as Nature Plus. You should start taking a prenatal vitamin with folic acid BEFORE you conceive!!!

prenatal vitamins not only have lots of folic acid but they also have other needed nutrients. Also, One-A-Day vitamins have the recommended daily dosage of folic acid. You should try to have about 800mg of folic acid a day.

Leafy green vegetables, whole wheat bread, nuts and seeds, oranges, grapefruit, bananas, and broccoli. It would be best to incorporate these foods in all of your meals to get enough.
