This US manufacturer does make a good car today. I will go back and say that the best car I ever owned was a 1983 Reliant that I drove HARD over 250,000 miles on the original power train. Not the sportiest but the best and most reliable.
I own two jeeps and a Durango and am very pleased. My job calls for me to travel alot and I get to drive anything I want and prefer the Chryslers.
Good Luck...support American Industry..it is all we have left.

I have been a long time chrysler enthusiast and have owned a few of the newer models.I just traded in my car for a chevy hhr it is way nicer than the pt cruiser but still retains the retro look.Chrysler was wanting 21,000 to 23,000 for their pt cruisers and I got my hhr for the low 17's and it was nicer equipped. The dashes on the pt look cheap as hell with the glossy plastic panels. Also the hhr is roomier and gets better fuel mileage and mine is a little faster than my friends pt.Good luck and remember toyotas aren't really better than anything else there all about the same anymore for reliability. One more quick thing I got 3 year 36,000 bumper to bumper plus 5 year 100,000 mile powertrain warrenty on the chevy it was nice not having to pay for extra coverage.

I am on my third Chrysler product. All of them where new when I purchased them ('98, '01, and an '05). I have never had any problems with Chrysler cars. They have all been very highly quality and very reliable. I say go for it, I think you will really enjoy it and it should be very trouble free. The PT has been a very popular model so a lot of people out there agree.
Scotty above clearly does not know what he is talking about and is simply basing his opinion on false perceptions. American cars are just as reliable as the Japanese.

Stick with the Toyotas, by all means. The PT Cruiser certainly has innovative styling, but is downright hoggish on fuel for such a small vehicle. A quick check of my Consumer Reports Buying Guide shows it to be average in terms of needed repairs.

I think that the Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring Edition is a good car because I rented it once. I didn't use it for a long time, but for the 2 weeks that I had it, I thought that it was a good car. I wouldn't trust it 100% because it's an American car, and I know that Japaneese cars are more reliable than American cars. If I were you, I would go for another Toyota. I would recommend the Prius because it's fuel efficient. The Camry is also a good choice to make.

for Gods sake keep the Toyota - I have a 99 chrysler 300m and its been in the shop more than on the road. It has approx 80,000 and has had EVERYTHING replaced! NEVER will I own a Chrysler product again!! also, the two dealerships here in DFW area (Moritiz and Meador) have very poor maintence personnel - I have to take my car back several times to get it fixed - I am very dis-satisfied with Chrysler. GO TOYOTA!!!!!!!

I just bought a 06 Touring. It runs fine with 25k miles. Newer model ones are more reliable.
