We live in a society of phrases that don't make sense. The ones I hate are "be a man", "step up to the plate" and "be held accountable". Please add a few of yours so I can have a sleepless night while they run through my head.

Well, 'I have a lot on my plate', so 'I just want to touch bases with you', and 'interface' a while, until you realize not to ' speak with your *** because your mouth knows better'.

Open up a can of worms - what a picture that evokes. One cliched expression i do unlike is "out with the old, in with the recent." It in a roundabout way supplies the effect there is something incorrect with the old and the recent is greater advantageous. yet another one i do no longer extremely trust is "basically the solid stay to tell the story." that's no longer the case. "lack of wisdom is bliss" - no, lack of wisdom is loss of understanding. I understand what's meant, even though it nonetheless grates. ***Edit: I forgot some that have been suggested, relatively Goldfish's "beat a lifeless horse" (on no account) and "beat around the bush" (why?) and "all's sincere in love and conflict" (i do no longer think of so). ***Edit 2: fable Rocks, I trust "think of outdoors the field" and how you positioned it replaced into truly humorous (thank you for the chuckle). You and Goldfish are so good approximately "you won't be in a position to have your cake and eat it, too." What, certainly, is the factor? Is there all human beings everywhere who needs a chew of cake as ornament? :) How approximately "good back at you?" i found out how plenty I dislike it, expressive as that's, while i replaced into approximately to function it in one in all my edits on yet another question. genuine Confessions: i could no longer like a number of them, yet i'm to blame of using them each and all of the same. ***back: Oh, arabesque, "turn your frown the different way up" is so patronizing in a roundabout way. Uh, oh, Angel interior the Snow, i've got used the two heavily and no offense - yet you're good. you're additionally good that when somebody says "that's no longer you, that's me" it frequently means the choice. good question. there are such a lot of words off-limits now, i ought to on no account write back. ?
