y = mx + b is slope-intercept form

m = slope = (-3/5)
(x,y) = (0,5)

5 = (-3/5)(0) + b
5 = 0 + b
5 = b

So your line equation is y = (-3/5)x + 5

SLOPE-INTERCEPT form means you want the equation to look like this: y=mx+b.

"m" is your SLOPE, and that's been given to you, so that's easy.
So far then we have: y = -3/5x+b

"b" is the y-INTERCEPT, which is the point where the line crosses the y axis. When that happens, your x value is 0. You're given that info too: (0,5) is a point on your line, so your y-intercept is 5.

Therefore, the equation you are looking for is:

y = -3/5x + 5

Putting in other values for x, or y, will give you more coordinates on your line. If y = 0, then

0 = -3/5x + 5
3/5x = 5
x = 5 (5/3) = 25/3

25/3 is also your x-intercept.

And, so (0,5) and (25/3, 0) are both points on this same line.

You're given the y-intercept and the slope, so simply plug the values into y = mx+b to get y = (-3/5)x + 5

since the point (0,5) gives the y-intercept as 5 you can just plug the slope and y-intercept into the slope-intercept formula:

y=mx+b
y=(-3/5)x+5

If you arrange your formula in y = mx + b form, you can plug in (0,5) for x and y respectively, and m for m.

5 = (-3/5)(0) + b

This gives us b = 5.

We now have the formula y = (-3/5)x +5

y=mx+b
(0,5), (x,y) just plug in these number in the equation to find b....
5=-3/5(0)+b
5=0+b
b=5
y=-3/5x+5
