no... actually you can try finding a budget airline... It might be cheaper and faster.

I wrote a long article about that on my blog today (way too much to write here).

Rome To Barcelona Train

Short answer: no.

Fastest and Cheapest would be by plane. I suppose it depends whether you're bothered about all this "carbon footprint" nonsense, but the plane will be going anyway even if you're not on it so you might as well fill an empty seat. Even a scheduled flight with a decent airline (not Ryanair) would probably be cheaper than the train. Flight time about an hour and a half I'd guess. I should imagine the train will involve a few stops and be an overnight job.

It will take 19 hours by train.

BY TRAIN:
------------
Rome - Genoa: 40$ (5 hours)
Genoa - Nice : 20$ (3 hours)
Nice - Barcelona: 100$ (11 hours)

Total : 160$ (19 hours)

BY PLANE:
----------------
Rome - Barcelona 55$ (1 hour 45 minutes) RyanAir

So do you want to pay 160$ or 55$?
Take a budget airline, it's way cheaper. Trains are not always the cheapest solution.

No! Try Ryan Air- Flies from Rome Ciampano (sp?) to Barcelona Girona, Cost me all of .99 + taxes when I did it a few years ago. The airports are a little outside the cities, but it was worth it and super cheap!

I would also suggest searching for cheap flights on www.skyscanner.net as I found cheap flights from Barcelona to Rome. I've heard mixed reviews of RyanAir (some have had bad experiences, and they into and out of remote airports that are not very close to the actual cities). Skyscanner will show you cheap flights that use the main airports.

No I would say a hot air baloon may be cheaper, but if you dont have the head for heights then a train might be the best idea
