Do you prefer the goofy antics that are known to usually take place in high-school movies with young white stars (e.g. American Pie, Ten Things I Hate About You), or do you prefer the reality-oriented ones that are usually found in movies with young black males (Drumline, Higher Learning).

i really prefer movies with equal amounts of black and white people, because that is more realistic. I don't know of any schools that are only black or only white. I know there are some where one race is more predominant, but here in my city, Buffalo, NY, when I was in H.S. and then college, for the most part the diff races got along and hung out together. im white but my best friend is black. I like to equally hang out with white, black and Puerto Rican/Latino/spanish people. the only people I have never gotten close to are Asian/Oriental people, and i don't know why, they really just don't talk to me.

First, there weren't accurate population records before european settlers/conquerors so the 20-100 million figure is purely conjecture. Now, I'm not trying to diminish the atrocity of what happened, but when you begin to count lives lost in the millions it becomes difficult to establish accuracy. But to answer your actual question: Why didn't you learn this? The education industry is complicated and text books are expensive to produce. Each state has separate educational standards. From a company like McGraw-Hill's perspective it makes the most sense to match a book to the largest population standards. California is the most populous state in the country. However, education standards vary district by district. That makes things very complicated for text book makers. So they go to population #2: Texas. It also happens that all of the major text book publishers are located in Texas as well. So it happens that by virtue of population and location in the middle of the country, the Texas state board of education sets the standards for the rest of the country. As to why they didn't bother including much native american history: since when have a bunch of cowboys given half of a damn about some indians?

I prefer movies with a story line to them or some moral or lesson to be learned theme. So in answer to your two choices, I would prefer the movie with the young black males as they are doing something constructive and trying to teach the youth of today that you can do what you dream, etc. instead of the movies where they are just running around being stupid, drinking and having indiscriminate sex, etc. as in the other.

DeLeon above says he hates movies with a moral theme to them. Then he is part of the world's problem today. It seems he feels that making something of yourself and tyring to bring up your kids the right way is stupid. I feel sorry for him.

The white ones because they just try to be funny. The black ones I think are just too pretentious. In black HS movie there always has to be some type of lesson your supposed to learn in the end like a Disney movie ( which I hate).

At least your average "black" high school film has some kind of a message or point. Both are horribly formulaic and predictable. But I just can't stand white high school comedies.

I like the contrast of both...Sometimes I like the funny, teeny-bopper high school movies, and sometimes I like the gritty, real-life, dramatic movies...For me, they each have something to offer...I enjoy both...

Btw (Higher Learning and Drumline were both set in college, not high school)

Later! :)

White people like white movies. Black people like black movies. It's about relating to the characters.
