I grew up in Michigan.
What to see depends on what you like. Mackinac Island, in the Straights of Mackinac is awesome. I was there last 4th of July. Mackinaw city (on the south side of the Mackinac bridge), St. Ignace (on the north side) and Mackinac Island all had fireworks at the same time. It was definitely cool.
On the west coast (Lake Michigan side) is the the Sleeping Bear Dunes. great place if you're into off-roading.
Just west of Detroit is the small town of Hell. You can get souvineers and tell all of your friends/family that you've been to Hell and back.
In the Detroit area there are many cool things to see... Check out the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn. Its the largest collection of cars, airplanes, trains, bicycles, sewing machines etc. from the originals 100 years ago to the present day models. Way cool. They also have the Original Oscar Meyer Weinermobile, Rosa Parks' bus, and the last 5 or 6 presidential limosines, including the one JFK was shot in.
Additionally, in Dearborn, is the Greenfield Village. Henry Ford took great effort to relocate very important historical buildings (Edison's lab, Wright Brothers' garage, Bell's lab) and moved them all to Greenfield Village. Way cool.
While you're in the Detroit area, don't forget to stop at Greektown for some awesome Greek food.
Enjoy! It's a great place to vacation.
To live there? Not so much.

I used to live in Michigan. It all depends on where you're going. If you're in the Lower Peninsula and you'll be anywhere near the Mackinac Bridge you should definitely check out Mackinac Island. (The Mackinaw Bridge connects the lower and upper Peninsulas.) It's a beautiful place. You take a ferry to get there. There are no motorized vehicles allowed on the island so everyone walks, rides bikes, or uses horses. You can rent bikes on the island as well as horses. There are horse drawn carriages also. Plan on spending most of the day out there. Lots of shops and restaurants too. If you're heading up to the Upper Peninsula you'll find it's great for outdoor activities. Go camping or rent some canoes or kayaks and go down the river! If you're going to be further south in the state you can find some good shopping. Have fun! =)

Depends on what you are into. If you want clubs and sports and theater, then stay near Detroit. You can catch the Tigers or visit the Fox Theater, or get on Ticketmaster and find some concerts in the area.
If you like nature or fishing, then you can head up to Traverse City, Manistee, or Ludington and hang out in the Manistee Forest and visit the golden beaches of Lake Michigan. Very nice.
And if you like history and fudge, than Mackinaw Island is a must.

Traverse city is astounding, inspite of the indisputable fact that it may get crowded. It should be because of the beaches good on the city. The Cherry pageant takes position between July 4th anf 11th this twelve months. there is also the TC movie pageant, from July twenty eighth to August second. that pulls some human beings. i have considered some places close to me, on Torch Lake, which are available for lease. do not close out this question yet, and that i will get again to you with some telephone numbers. those will be interior of a Petoskey stone's throw of TC. also, you may want to objective to locate an section close to Petoskey, yet that would want to be slightly extra expensive. Or it would want to nicely be a lot less, with the present marketplace. try searching up actual property brokers for concepts.

You need to be more specific about where you plan to be in Michigan if you expect to get a decent answer.
