How would Star Wars canon have been changed if, during the time between New Hope and Empire, the emporer employed a covert ops spec team to infiltrate the rebel alliance. During that time, this spec ops team's R&D scientists came up with a "cloaking" system that consisted of holographic projectors to make their ships look like whatever they wanted it to (making SSD's look like Mon Cal Cruisers and so on). How would that have affected the battle of Endor?

Beast, we have a once a week star wars RPG that we're playing....this is kinda the way our campaign is going..

Oh, btw for the guy who said something about lando....in this particular version of the story, lando's already dead....not there to betray them in cloud city......

And the emporer didn't technically die in Ep 6, he was cloned and turned luke later in life (according to the books) and that is canon....

Sapre - R&D = Research and Development. They wouldn't look for it, they would invent it.

well, most of the fleet more than likely would've got wiped, lando and the falcon probably would've been destroyed, still a slight probability that the death star would've been blown up; a rogue fighter could've gotten in there, but it's not likely. so vader and the emporer are dead, but the death star and the empire still alive and kicking. han and the gang would've had a hell of a time getting off endor and luke probably wouldn't be able to get off the death star. pretty grim.

Then the Galactic Civil War would probably still be going on and Luke would have never gotten the chance to turn his father back to the Light Side because he is to busy trying to keep the Rebel Alliance from being obliterated.

How in the universe would the Imperials be able to find such sophisticated technology? They're to busy fighting to begin with to look for such tech.

i think your mixing of star trek and star wars might make some people angry.

but to seriously answer your question, the amount of energy needed to run a cloaking device of that size would probably be too much of a strain on the engines. this energy would probably be better used on shields or weapons systems.

furthermore, the question of penetrating such a charade would probably be an easy one via passwords and/or gaining knowledge of this kind of technology via spies (remember how easily they found out about the empire's badass weapon, the death star? a project this size would probably be easily known).

also, luke could probably find out which ships were real or not via his jedi voodoo.

also, the empire isn't all about subterfuge and sneakiness, they were badasses who liked to push their weight around with big showy weapons (AT-ATs, SSDs like the Executor, and of course, the Death Star), a cloaking device wouldn't be like them.
