The reason why I was asking is because the past couple of times I have went to the Doctor they have told me that my cervix is getting thiner but Im not dilated any. So I thought that if I walk at least a couple of miles a day, Could it speed up the process and maybe I could have my baby sooner?

I'm NOT wanting to Rush the Baby out but I do think that walking will help me. I just thought that since everytime I have went to the Doctor they have told me that; that maybe it would.

In my class they said that walking definitely helps (if the baby has dropped) because it bounces the baby's head on your cervix, also climbing stairs is supposed to help. But exercise can be dehydrating so make sure to stay well hydrated all the time because that will help prevent premature contractions before your cervix is prepared for labor.

Yes!!! Call the hospital. That is exactly how my labor started with my first daughter. If those cramps had you up all night they were likely dilating the cervix. 36 weeks is really good though. If anything the baby may have some trouble latching but otherwise will do very well!!! Not everyone sees their mucus plug. When it is your baby and your labor and delivery you are never worrying over nothing. Get ready to go because I am sure they will want you to come in. I don't think they would even try to stop labor at this point.

36 Weeks 2 Days Pregnant

Unfortunately, the answer to this is "no". Babies come when they are ready. Walking does naturally release oxytocin, which stimulates contractions. However, if your body and your baby are not ready for labor, the oxytocins released during walking will not have an effect. A full-term pregnancy is considered 37-42 weeks. Most babies are born sometime in that time frame. While there are many Old Wives's Tales about how to naturally induce labor, none of them are reliably effective. All 4 of my babies were born past 40 weeks. I tried numerous things to get things going faster, but each time ended up going into labor when I least expected it. Walking done in moderation is not going to hurt you or your baby. However, if you are not used to walking, a couple miles to start with will likely only produce sore muscles and exhaustion on your part. I also tried having sex, eating spicy food, driving down bumpy roads, and scrubbing floors on my hands and knees (this was my Grandma's "guaranteed" way to get labor going), but I had no success with any of these methods. Ultimately, my babies were born 9 days, 11 days, 5 days, and 7 days past their due dates.

Walking doesn't make you dilated. Especially if you wait until the very end to try it. Walking makes for a quicker, easier labor, because you exercised. This usually only works if you "exercise" consistently throughout the ENTIRE pregnancy. Sorry, but I don't think it's going to work.

Why do you want to speed it up? You still have nearly 4 weeks to go. Although you may be anxious, remember the closer to full term you baby is, the better the chances are that your baby will not have any health problems. Your baby's lungs are still developing and virtually has no immunity to illness. Don't try to speed things up. Your body will naturally tell you when your baby is ready to come out.
Besides, enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. You are going to have a lifetime to spend with you child. Get all the sleep in you can now before you have newborn to worry about.

When I was pregnant with my son I was due around the 18 of August. My dad's b-day was the 14th so starting on the 10th I walked and walked and walked. I did everything possible to try to go into labour for my dad's b-day. But nothing worked, and I ended up not having my baby until August 23. In my mind that baby is in there until it is ready. When it is completely ready it will make its way out. We shouldnt try to make it come out sooner. What is meant to be, will be.

Good luck and congrats.

Hey don't worry about speeding process. I am sure you are uncomfortable. Of course the longer the baby stays in the better. But I just read a research study that stillborn birth increases drastically between 37-42 weeks of pregnancy. That shocked me. But not to scare you I have kidney obstruction have been dealing with excrutiating pain for 2 months now and am tired and want to deliver early. I also get the goody 2 shoes who say keep the baby in as long as possible. But My body is just as important as my baby's health. So I am spotting at almost 37 weeks and know my cervix is thinning as well. But that could go on for a few weeks or could happen in a couple of days. I think to get things going have sex. It is a sure way to soften the cervix and get things going. Good luck!!

I heard a lot of walking will help you during labor. It did no such thing for me. I also heard having a lot of sex will help you. Also did no such thing. I guess it won't hurt to try though, because not all women are the same. Walk until you can't walk anymore (but do NOT over-exert yourself), and drink plenty of water.
