Hi everyone. I need to finally clear out my baby son's things. The issue is that most of it is in new condition unworn, and many designer names. Also many like new items like bouncers, swings, etc. Is it too much to ask for 75% of the original price? All are in just as good as new condition. All clothes are new unworn or worn once. I have two bouncers( new $35-39 each), a baby einstein mobile that was $35, and other great name brand products. I went crazy shopping but don't want to do all the work for a yard sale unless I get a return on what I spent. If I just wanted to get rid of it period, I would just donate it rather than take all the time to mark things under 25 cents. Please let me know your own etiquette for yard sales. And yes, I would pay the prices I am marking things at for myself. Also I am going to have many items under a dollar and free items that are still in great condition. Thanks in advance all you yard-salers out there. I need your help.

Sorry all, typo - I mean 75% Off of what I paid for the items. Babygap, Guess, Ecko Unlimited, Nike, Adidas, etc.

As stated, many of the items are NEW and UNWORN, not used. So please read the question before answering. Thanks.

Yes, I will continue to dress my baby boy in designer clothes - he might only wear them once, but he's always in style. He deserves the best, and that is what he will get - no matter what it costs us! Or if I can re-sell anything to make any money.

As an avid garage saler, and one who purchases many clothing items for my children at them, this is the idea I have in mind. I buy the clothes at garage sales because they are so cheap and kids grow out of them so quickly. I enjoy finding a good bargain on a name brand label, but I would never go to a store and spend $30 on a onesie! I think generally speaking, these are the kinds of people you are selling your items to. So therefore, they will pass items up if they are priced to high. So say, you spent $20 on a gap shirt. No one will want to pay 75% or even half of what you paid for it at a garage sale. On big ticket items like mobiles, bouncers, etc. that pricing may be more acceptable, as people will know that these items cost a pretty penny in the store. But whether your clothing has never been used or not, people will see it as used clothes and not want to spend more than a couple dollars for them. The lower your prices are, the more you will get rid of, therefore, the more money you will make. You will see many "salers" glance over highly priced items and move on to the next sale instead. My suggestion is that in the future don't buy such expensive things for your children if you know you will just eventually have to get rid of them.

Dont bother marking things unless they are larger items. I did the same type of sale recently. I jsut made piles of clothes and made one big sign for each (or you could hang them in sections or on different tables whatever you have to use) anyhow I made a big sign for each pile 25 cents, 50 cents and $1. Garage sales are great for selling all of those little things...clothes etc.
Another great resource that I use all the time is Craigslist. Google Craigslist.com and once there look up your state then narrow your search to your city or the closest city to you on their list. Then you can post under the baby/c=kids section all of the awesome items that you would like to get the most money for. This has been awesome for us!!! Check it out! We bought a framed backpack carrier on there for 35 and resold it a year later for 40! People will pay more on these sites! Seriously check it out! :O) Good luck!
oh yeah, on the site you can post whatever you want but when it comes to a bunch of baby clothes people usually post it as a lot (multiple items for a set price)

If the clothes still have price tags attached you can charge more than if they are new without tags. As far as clothing goes at yard sales, people are very cheap. You don't want to overprice it or people will get a "doesn't she think highly of her stuff" attitude and not even bother making an offer. Most people will expect clothing to be in the $3 or less price range, but you might be able to get as much as $7 for things that have high price original tags on them.
As far as the baby gear goes, I think you can charge more. That stuff rarely goes on sale in stores (unlike clothes that you can regularly find at 75% off original prices) so I think you can charge 60-70% of the new value depending on condition. When I was looking for a Jumperoo, I would have been happy to find one for even 80% of what it was selling for in the store but I couldn't so I had to buy one new.

Here is the rule of thumb. Someone will ALWAYS offer you less than your price, not more. If you are interested in getting rid of it, mark it low. If you want to have more than one sale, mark it high. Depending on the area where you live, I think the prices are a bit high. I agree with 50%. If you were interested in getting the money back that you paid for them , you shouldn't have bought it. Sorry but it's true. After I am finished having kids, i don't expect to get the money back that I put into it. Good luck!

If you want to make more money sell it on ebay. You can't really ask for that much money at a yard sale. I'm expecting a baby and if I went to a yard sale I would expect to find stuff for cheap. If I want to buy something for 75% of the cost I would look for a sale at the store and buy it brand new. At least then I would know I could return it if it didn't work out for me. People expect things at a yard sale to be cheap because they are used and can't be returned.

Ok...here is my opinion on yard sales.....it is used....no matter what if you really WANT to get rid of it you will price it super cheap....baby clothes sell easily, but just b/c its designer does not mean people should pay half price! I sell all of my stuff cheap like onsies for .25 or .50 and pants too...it just depends....non of my stuff had spit up stains and some had tags b/c my son grew too fast for him to wear it.....I just wanted to get rid of it and maybe make a bit extra on the stuff...at the end of the day if it did not get sold it went straight to the salvation army........If I go to a yard sale I do not want to hear...."well, it was only worn once"....or ...."it is designer"....so who cares thats your fault for buying expensive...people who go to yard sales want a bargin and some of those people can only afford yard sale stuff.....so dont be stingy and price cheap!

75% is typically a bit much. If you want to price it that way, I'd also have a sign encouraging people to make an offer.
