FOR BLACKS ONLY (Some question about Tyler Perry PLAYS?)?
I think that I have got to be one of the only African American who thinks Tyler Perry's plays are POORLY WRITTEN PIECES OF ..(DO-DO)! There are a few "feel good" scenes which are (typically) mostly church scenes! However, his stereotypes of women as either overly weak, (the victim character) or overbearing (his Medea character) are OVER THE TOP!! His males are depicted as either "so damn nice and sweet" that they are not real men or they are just THE DEVIL (the villians). Another problem is that most of his plays STEAL from other plays. (The Color Purple, Roots, & Beloved)

Unlike his screen plays, the music in his stage plays are ussually irrelevant to the plot and what is worse he OFTEN breaks character to talk to the audience.

TYLER PERRY'S PLAYS ARE NOT LEGIT BLACK THEATRE

REASONS:
1. There is no subtlity to his characters.
2. The message & themes of the play are ussually on the surface there are no secondary or subplots.
3. They depend heavily on stereotypes.

4. Most of his Morality plays PREACH TO HARD, they do not leave the audience with much to think about or ponder on!

5. Many of his plays steal to much from other plays, his works do not stand on it's own.

6. Tylar doesn't seem to have an "honest" grasp of the human condition.

7. He also depends to heavily on LOW-BROW humor....Fart Jokes, silly wise cracks about shooting someone, snatching weaves and etc.

KoKo, I understand that a play most have some type of conflict and in plays that have a "man vs. man" conflict there most be a good and a bad guy! However, in most sopisticated DRAMA's (which his plays ussually are) the characters are more "well-rounded" most of the characters are not PURELY GOOD or PURELY EVIL! They are mostly right or left of the center

I agree. While Madea can be funny sometimes, his story lines are always the same, and the characters have no depth....I think thats kind of the reason his television show is disappointing as well....

I think you have every right to state your opinion and to each his own. But you must have seen quite a few of his plays and movies to have such a strong opinion about them. Why keep watching them if you think quality is so bad? Madea as a character is not your average "madea" but every family has their over the top member just in different forms. And all of the unique things he does like "stepping out of character to talk to the audience" keeps you watching and makes you want to go to one of his plays. The issues that he talks about are very real and whether you believe it or not, people go through those things every day. I personally don't care for The Color Purple, or Beloved. I think they're depressing movies. But people consider them masterpieces. I just don't watch them. Tyler's plays and movies appeal to all ages and it's something people can relate to. I think his plays and Madea are outstanding and great to watch.

Tyler Perry writes plays to hit home to what most of the women and or men that are black. I, myself haven't really known anyone who has really gone through that stuff but some people I know have. He also writes about stuff that has happend in his life. I find them entertaining however, I do know that he writes his movies and plays with "happy" endings, and I know that that is not always the case. But movies arent aways supposed to leave you wondering, sometimes they should leave you with a good feeling.

What I really like about Tyler Perry is that he can take the most intense, saddest deep stuff and make it not seem so like OMG like on Dr. Phil or whatever, and he uses Medea to make it funny.

Yeah i have noticed that in a lot of his productions the rich men are always no good why does it have to be like that. the women always end up with blue collar guys if its true love why does it always have to be with a blue collared guy not that its a bad thing but just because a guy is successful doesn't mean he is woman beater

i feel that you are totally wrong about this. everyone has their own opinion about certain things but u went totally overboard with the criticism. obviously the world thinks otherwise about the plays because he has made millions off the plays. so instead of talkin down on his abilities don't watch the plays
