Pensacola, Ft. Walton Beach...on the northwestern coast. The beaches are FAR better than south Florida. The weather is much nicer...not so extremely hot and humid. Not as expensive as south Florida, lower crime rates. of course locations on the beach are expensive, but go inland a ways...or to a small town in that area.

Florida is not that cheap to live in anymore. That is why I'm leaving the state. Depending on what career field you're in, the salaries are low while the cost of living is very high. In speaking for the Orlando area, you can not find an apartment except for to the highest crime areas. The apartments that are in nice areas have long waiting lists and charge top dollar. Pricing for homes is also extremely high. Plus you have to drive everywhere because the public transportation sucks. With the cost of the gas, that is less food for the month.

Depends. Everyone's definition of "nice" and "cheap" and "safe" are different. Truth is that the most fun places to live are the most expensive and least safe. The quieter places are cheaper and safer, but they are rural and dull. Ultimately it is going to depend on YOUR likes and interests, and you don't really provide that information here.

Keywest(southernmost point)....the seafood and restaurants are great, the shopping is great, and you can ride a bike around everywhere. The beaches aren't quite as nice as some others though, but they're still beautiful.
