Im in fifth grade and my parents won't let me get a cell. Not even a smei-cell like a Firefly or a Migo! I have tried to talk it over with my parents but they just keep saying no! Do you have any advice on how to convince them to let me have one? And if you have any cellphone suggestions they might say yes to please respond.

Thanks

Well I think that I was around the age of 11 or 12 when I got my first cell phone. And when you talk about it with your parents maybe suggest getting a plan that doesn't have alot of minutes with it. Or maybe suggest getting a pre-paid phone. And maybe try doing stuff around the house. And talk to then about how you can be responsible.

Inform them that you can get a Pre-paid phone for fairly cheap and pay for your minutes as you use them. When/if you run out you just purchase more minutes and you also won't have a service contract agreement. This will take the pressure off of them and also allow them to control how much money it does or doesn't cost them all while teaching you how to be responsible about your talking and money spent on that stuff.

Most parents worry about cell phones and with very good reason to. Why? B/C they cost money and rack up money and can easily get ou of control and ruin people's credit, which is not good and not a prioriy for most parents when they have more important things to mantain in life: bills, groceries, mortgages, educaion for you, etc. etc.

Other than Pre-paid most praents would rather give their kids the keys to the car than get them hooked up on a cell phone right away!!!

Tell them about T-Mobile's prepaid phones......you ca even get them startin at $29.99, which will start you with 30 minutes and you can purchase more as you go. No contract, no worries!

Hope this helps!! Print this off and show them...most parents would rather read something than listen to their kid whine about something they want realy bad!!

I work at T-Mobile.

I had this same problem!!! You parents probably dont want u to get 1 because they might be afraid you will go over on texts or minutes and it can get a little costly. They said i didnt need one because i could just use the home phone, or if we are out i could use hers. My best friend and i went through it together where my parents wouldnt get my a phone till her parents let her get one, so for my 13th bday, around the time we started doing a lot of things by ourselves they got me a phone and my friend got 1 too. ;) so i hate to say it, but they dont want you to get one for a good reason, i notice that now, because i dont use my phone as often as i did the first week i had it, just like they said would happen. BUT i glad i have it. HOPE YOU GET 1 SOON!

I think the only cell phone appropriate for you is the Migo, why don't you tell them that if you get lost, they can call you, and also that you are allowed to put in only 4 numbers plus and emergency # which you can call or answer, its safe and if you get lost they can call you or vice versa...
If you want to buy any other phone then I think you're a bit too young and its not safe...

Your parents are nto going to be talked into this and I know that my kids wont have one tell they are in high School maybe Jr High. Your parents may feel your not old enough to have one just cause your friends have one dont mean you need one to. Your mom and dad are most likely thinking that there baby wants to grow up to fast is all. Since I dotn know who your parents are and what you are like either its hard to say. So give them time and show them that you are responsable enough to have one. Then bring up the subject again.

We got through school just fine without cell phones. You can, too. I didn't get one until I was 18 years old and in college, and I paid for it myself.
